Walt Disney World Resort More Walt Disney World Resort Stories

Behind the Scenes with SHAG

Back in January, I had the chance to familiarize you with the artwork of SHAG. SHAG’s retro inspired art has been found in Disneyland Resort for quite a few years and was recently introduced to Disney Cruise Line for the Maiden Voyage of the Disney Dream and to Walt Disney World Resort for our 40th anniversary.

SHAG recently set sail with us on the Disney Dream and while onboard, my friend John caught up with him to learn more about his creative method and inspiration. Take a look at this video to get a behind the scenes look at SHAG as he showcases his latest artwork and talks about his artistic style.

  • Ooh, I like that Hawaiian shirt! = )

  • I love shag’s artwork. Its really cool and retro-looking.

  • I’m an avid collector of Shag’s prints and work. We used his 50th DL art prints in our daughter’s nursery and get lots of compliments. It’s like a mini “happiest place on earth” in there! Now, I think as we live in Florida that it would be only appropriate to get some of his amazing WDW prints as well!

  • Dara, will there be a release event for this, much like Josh did for the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland? Thank you!

  • I have 2 shirts, some DL 50th stuff and the vinylmation of ghost host he did — I think he is masterful and really enjoy his work. It just makes you feel good and I am thrilled he will now be doing items for the WDW Magic Kingdom… put my name on the list !

  • Thank you so much for this feature on Shag. His artwork is absolutely marvelous.

  • Thanks so much for posting this, I love SHAG, and am eager to get updates when his artwork is available.

  • Did SHAG design the art for Spaceship Earth that plays on the in-ride video towards the end? Looks very similar.
