Love is in the Air at Disneyland Resort: Cast Members in Love

It’s not hard to find a good love story at the Disneyland Resort. Even some cast members find their future prince or princess while working at the “Happiest Place on Earth.” In honor of Valentine’s Day we asked two of these special cast couples to share their Disney love stories.

Jim and Lee Lowman met at the Tahitian Terrace more than 35 years ago. Disneyland history buffs will remember the Terrace as the table-service restaurant once located next to The Enchanted Tiki Room, complete with hula dancers and fire dancers. Lee was a seasonal waitress at the time when Jim was assigned to the Terrace as a manager. Their easy-going friendship developed into something stronger in the tight-knit, bustling atmosphere of Tahitian Terrace.

Jim and Lee Lowman Found Love at Disneyland Resort

The two Disneyland Resort Golden Spirit Award winners have enjoyed 34 years of married life together and they agree that fellow cast members are like an extended family. The couple’s oldest daughter carried on the family tradition, giving the Lowman’s a great sense of pride.

As Lee said: “The Resort is a place where you build incredible friendships and relationships. Jim and I have so enjoyed watching our daughter train and work with old friends. It’s been an incredible circle.”

Karen Nordeman met her Prince Charming in 1989, when a chivalrous Jeff Ughoc invited her to share a table with him at the cast member cafeteria. At the time, both Karen and Jeff were working at the Disneyland Hotel, she as a hotel operator and he in security. Karen recalls the lunch fondly: “We just kept talking and talking and realized we had so much in common” – including the fun coincidence that they had both attended the same Disneyland “Grad Nite” in 1977. The rest, as Karen will tell you, is history. Eight months after meeting, they were married, on October 4, 1989. Jim and Karen have been happily married, and working at the Disneyland Resort, for more than 21 years now.
