One of our goals for the new Star Tours show was to pack as much Star Wars into the attraction as possible. That meant traveling to different planets, and meeting up with classic characters from the saga.
Of course you already know that R2-D2 and C-3PO are back, reprising their roles in the pre-show, and taking on bigger roles (especially C-3PO) in our Starspeeder adventures. And some time ago, we introduced you to two new droids in our show…Star Tours Pilot Ace (AC-38) and Spokesbot Aly San San.
So who else is joining the cast?
Well, it wouldn’t be a Star Wars adventure without Darth Vader. The Dark Lord of the Sith will be accompanied by legions of stormtroopers and some new “skytroopers,” designed especially for our show. Boba Fett, everyone’s favorite bounty hunter, also will be after us, as well as an assortment of nasty droids and creatures.
Balancing out the villains are some classic good guys – and even a princess! Master Yoda, Admiral Ackbar (pictured above in a still image from Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi) and Princess Leia will appear in the show to help guide our adventures. We may even run into Chewbacca along the way!

Just in case anyone hasn’t heard, it was just announced on the DisneyParks blog that Star Tours at Disneyland will open June 3rd.
Star Tours is opening May 20th. Just in time for SWW
I can not wait. As soon as I heard the date, I booked my flight.
I will be there from may 12 to 24th. It will be awesome
from everything ive heard, in reopens may 10th at disneyland and may 17th at disneyworld. i really hope to stick to this cuz my 20th birthday is on the 10th. and itd be the best present ever! but as far as the whole princess leia conversation, she was featured in the first force unleashed game. completely cg of course. and her voice sounded like carrie fischer even though it may not have been. knowing disney and lucasfilm magic, they can probably take a video of carrie fischer (voice and face) and anti-age it. if they can age someone for a film, why cant they anti-age them digitally?
We are going to Disney World the last week of March – my 7 year old grandson loves everything Star Wars, this is the first I heard that star tours was closed and may not be open when we get there. Is there a publish reopening or is it just speculation…
Vanessa- No one is saying to go back to the drawing board. Its too late for that anyway. I think we are all looking forward to the new Star Tours. I hope that Tom does read these responses and takes things into consideration and makes sure that everything makes sense for this story.
Just remember that it is opening on Star Wars Weekends in May. There will be literally thousands of hardcore Star Wars fans there. They will be *really* looking forward to this ride. But if the ride doesn’t make sense there is going to be a lot of disappointment. I think that everything will work out, as long as the various characters are shown at the right ages for the time period, most fans will be happy.
Tom, I hope you don’t read these comments and go ” Oh Geez, Back to the drawing board ! ” I am sure whatever timeline inconsistancies will be forgiven by the millions of fans who will love the ride…..
Meanwhile —-on another subject- Do you have any pull to get the original tiki room production still in use at Disneyland placed in WDW. None of us want Iago back ! LOL…..
Can’t wait to ride Star Tours 2.0 in August. Tom, I’m curious about the preshow. The preshow for the original Star Tours was one of WDI’s finest. Will 2.0 feature more “live” shows with droids? I’m hoping we see more than a lackluster video preshow, or some interactive screens. Bring on the animatronic droids – those are the types of immersive environments that really place you somewhere else.
Maybe Harrison Ford can “Star” in 2 Disneyland attractions?? He should be in this one also.
Fred-
Not too too worried about it but I know the online fan community is a fickle one. If it doesn’t make sense we’ll be hearing about it for years!
I saw pics of the new Sky Troopers and they look pretty cool. Toy Fair was this weekend and they showed pictures of 2 Star Tours figure sets, which I must have. I read somewhere that they were making a huge Star Speeder but there was no mention of that. =(
Terry–
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’m sure that it will all work out and will be fun.
Besides, the original Star Tours was set after Return of the Jedi, and yet we were fighting another death star.
The more I hear about this, the more I am looking forward to it!
Is Rex going to be part of the new Star Tours to some degree?
@Christian The reason for concern about it falling in the official Star Wars timeline is that they have stated that it takes place in a particular time period between the 2 trilogies. You can’t have adult Han Solo next to a young Anakin for example. Fans of the films, even casual ones, will be like “That makes no sense!”
So, all the characters mentioned could potentially be seen during the set time period. Even Princess Leia, its just that she has to be a bit younger than what we saw her back in the first film.
The only problems are that Yoda should be in hiding and that R2-D2, who is most likely going to be our navigator again, should not go to Dagobah to see him. His first visit there was in Empire Strikes back which isn’t until years later.
I’m very excited to ride the new version in June, I just hope that the characters all feel like they are in the right place and in the right time period!
I think it is hilarious that everyone is worried about it falling into the official Star Wars timeline. It is a ride. If Princess Leia does not look exactly like you think she should, will it keep you from having a good time? I certainly hope not! Bring on Yoda! I can’t wait!
Tom,
I have heard that Star Tours at Disneyland will reopen in June. Any truth to this?
It would be cool to see Starkiller in some respect.
This keeps sounding better and better! I’m curious about Leia’s appearance, but since she’ll be younger than in ANH a different individual portraying her makes sense… I want to know if there will be a DVC, AP, or D23 preview late May 18th or anytime May 19th since I’ll be there- HINT HINT!!! 😉
It reopens May 20th.
I hope they remember the time frame and have all of these characters at the appropriate ages. Vader can be in it easily. Leia will *have* to be played by a younger actress since this ride will take place before the original movie. Chewbacca can easily be in this but Admiral Ackbar will have to be a much younger version of himself. Boba Fett could be in it in his Mandalorean costume depending on where this takes place between the films. I’m guessing it will be closer to the original trilogy time period.
I think that yoda should not be in this since he is in hiding and shouldn’t be found by just any tour group flying through.
Awesome!
Thanks for the info Tom.
When does it re-open?
IT’S A TARP!
“IT’S A TRAP!”
First! Great news!
We know that Star Tours 2.0 takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars film (A New Hope), but can you give us an idea when? I’d imagine it would be a few years after RotS as Princess Leia was only an infant and Boba Fett was a young boy at the time of that film’s ending, but who knows?
Yoda went into exile at the conclusion of the 3rd prequel, so how would he be in the ride? He decides to come out of hiding to help an intergalactic travel agency? The Star Speeders land on Dagobah and he’s there to greet us with some leis and a hula? Probably best not to think about it!
Also, we’ve been told that there are multiple variations on the ride so that riders will be hard-pressed to have the same trip twice: will we be seeing all of the characters you mentioned above on each trip, or do they appear randomly according to whichever version the computer decides to send you on that day?
(I have a feeling you’re going to say, “You’ll have to wait and see for yourself!” The only problem is that I CAN’T WAIT ANYMORE!!! I WANT TO RIDE THIS NOW!!!)
Most of these are costumed characters and/or CGI creatures, but I’m curious how they’ll accomplish the Princess Leia appearance, since Carrie doesn’t exactly look like she did in the 70’s/80’s. CGI? Boushh helmet? Bring in a ringer? Nice staticky hologram message? It’s got my mind whirling with possibilities.
Oh, and I want to see pics of the Skytroopers!
