Happy “Fat Tuesday!” This is the final day of traditional Mardi Gras festivities. We celebrated Mardi Gras the past three weekends at the Disneyland Resort with “Mardi Gras Family Fun Weekends,” complete with lively music and dancing at New Orleans Square.

This was one in a series of “Family Fun Weekends” that began January 14. Thanks to everyone who joined us at Festival Arena and New Orleans Square in Disneyland park for these eight, great weekends. Here’s a look back at some of the activities from Fiesta Disneyland, Country Kickin’ Weekends, Character Fan Days, Happy Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras Weekends…

A lot of you really liked these exciting weekends, especially the characters, the food and the entertainment. Here are a few comments from our Disney Parks Blog readers:

Debra from CA had a great time at Character Fan Days and had this to say, “I was there on Friday and it was so much fun. Great to see these hard-to-see characters. So hope you do (it) again and I’m really excited to try and get to the Lunar New Year Days or Mardi Gras weekends.”

Loren added, “I experienced once of the most magical moments I’ve ever had at Disneyland and, interestingly enough, it didn’t involve the characters that weekend. I had the wonderful opportunity to get a sketch of Mickey Mouse from ‘The Band Concert’ (my favorite Mickey Mouse short) from the fabulous (artist) Stacia Martin.”

Regarding the Happy Lunar New Year celebration, Dominic commented, “The show was very colorful from the Chinese dancers, martial arts performers, lion dancers, ribbon dancers, umbrella dancers, Chinese drummers and including the adorable Chinese children dancing. Disneyland also had characters dressed up in their Chinese New Year outfits with Mickey and Minney, Chip and Dale and Mulan and Mushu for photo opportunities.”

Some guests from Southern California took advantage of the special 2 days for $99 ticket to enjoy Family Fun Weekends. Those tickets can be purchased only through April 14. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog to learn about other new entertainment coming soon to Disneyland park.

  • I absolutely loved madi GRAS weekend! The performance by princess Tiana was a tremendous hit with my two daughters! Can’t wait to see what comes next! Thanks for the memories!

  • character fan days by far!!! how awesome was it to see all these characters – many of them rarely seen – all in one spot. i spent HOURS there as i wanted to get photos with all the characters. i even went back a 2nd day to get a character sketch of sorcerer mickey, one of my prized possessions, along with my group shot with the 7 dwarfs. i mean, HOW. COOL. IS. THAT.?????

pls. pls. pls. bring back character fan days – make it a staple somehow. i think the fans will truly appreciate it.

    THANK YOU!

  • The Mardi Gras looked fun! But then again, everything looked fun!

  • CHARACTER FAN DAYS! That was so great!! I hope you’ll do these, or other themes soon. I attended the Lunar Celebration, Mardi Gras and Character Fan Days. All were great! I just wish the Mardi Gras had more room so that more than one character could be seen at a time, like the others were set up

  • Character Fan Days was the absolute best! You have no clue how exciting it is to see Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, Frollo, Esmeralda, Clopin, 7 Dwarves, The Country Bears, Baloo & King Louie. Please do this again. You have no clue how upset I was because Clara Cluck didn’t come out Sunday for the Country Kickin’ Weekend. Please bring Character Fan Days back. You have no clue how much we truely appreciate seeing rare characters.

  • I did go to the Character Fan Event , Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras Celebration. I had no desire to go to fiesta and was unable to attend the country one. I LIKED the Characer Fan event the best. It was alot of fun!!! Seeing the rare characters and seeing people you have gotten to know through the years. Lunar was alot of fun and Mardi Gras was fun too. Hope you do this again and soon!!

  • I attended the Fiesta Days, Character Fan Days, and Mardi Gras celebrations. The Character Fan Days were by far my favorite!! I absolutely loved getting to see all the characters in one place. Rotating them the way Disneyland did was a great way to maximize the characters I could see in a relative short period of time. It was organized and the lines went fast!! Mardi Gras was my least favorite. The performance was great but did not get the pictures and autographs I had hoped to. I did not know that there was a special place for photos until I took a survery, and she told me at the end of the survey where I could find Mickey & Minnie. I did enjoy the muffaletta sandwich from the French Market. Fiesta Days was also fun; although, I think there could have been more “fiesta” food other than churros. All in all, Family Fun Weekends were a hit with me and my family. I think if Mardi Gras would have been held in Big Thunder Ranch it would have been more successful in my opinion.

  • OMG! My Family is in the video! How fun! We had so much fun at all the events! The only one we didn’t make it too was the fiesta day!

  • Thank you for the mention! I still think about that time I had with Stacia Martin and it was absolutely magical. I just got the drawing professionally framed and it looks absolutely wonderful.

I got to go to all of the Family Fun Weekends and just had a blast. I think they’re the best thing that Disneyland has come up with in a long time. Will Disneyland be doing more of these in the future? I really hope so!

Thanks again for doing them! It was a blast!

  • Wow! Mardi Gras weekends were our favorite. Any chance of the Shrimp Po Boy from French Marketplace and the Bananas Foster crepe at Cafe Orleans can stay on as a regular menu item for awhile? Way tasty!

  • The Family Fun Weekends were a great addition to the park, I hope that they return next year. Great to see the characters in different outfits, I especially enjoyed seeing the Parade of Dreams costumes used for Mardi Gras.

  • You want to know what characters i would die to see, but it will most likely never happen. The Gummi Bears!! That was such a great show, it was my favorite! I wish Disney would have more merch and do other things with the old cartoons.

  • Please do a MAKE UP WEEKEND for rhe Family Fun Character Fan Days ** As the day I was there it ws stopped dur to the rain and they were surpose to start it again as it stopped raining but they never restated it. PLEASE PLEASE do a CHARACTER DAYS MAKE UP weekenk. That was the only weekend I Missed..
All the weekends were great fun. But we need the Character one back again.
    PLEAE PLEASE PLEASE…

  • I agree with Barbara, please do a make up weekend for the family fun character fan days, please, please please!!**We too were only able to go the one day that it rained out and my daughter was so disappointed to not get to see all the characters that were out. The only other weekend we attended was Mardi Gras and while we enjoyed it we too think it would have been better if it had been held in the big thunder ranch area. New Orleans square just seemed to crowded.
