The Walt Disney World Resort welcomed the 2011 Disney’s Dreamers in grand style yesterday during the Magic Kingdom parade. The honorary Grand Marshals of the parade were comedian, best-selling author and humanitarian Steve Harvey, Mikki Taylor, Beauty Director and Cover Editor of Essence Magazine and Tracey D. Powell, Director of Theme Parks & Resorts Pricing for Disney Parks.
The more than 100 students, called “Dreamers,” lined Main Street, U.S.A., to kick off the fourth year of Disney’s Dreamers Academy – a four-day program with dedicated mission to provide youth an opportunity to learn how they can harness the power of their dreams.
Through life enriching, interactive workshops and motivational talks, Disney’s Dreamers Academy gives the Dreamers inspiration to explore possibilities they may never have imagined and the tools they need to turn their dreams into reality. Basically, Disney’s Dreamers Academy shows the students how to dream BIG!
The Dreamers were selected in a nationwide search by a panel of judges including Steve Harvey, songstress Yolanda Adams, noted educator Dr. Steve Perry and more.
Yolanda Adams opened the weekend of events yesterday at The Hall of Presidents and singer/actress Raven Symone will provide the event’s keynote speech on Sunday. Other celebrity guests scheduled to take part include BET’s Terrence J, musician/dancer/actor Roshon Fegan, actor/singer Chris Massey and actress Tamera Mowry.
One of the many generous corporate sponsors for the event is Sony Electronics Inc., who provided the Dreamers with Sony Bloggie Touch Cameras to help them capture and share their memories of this life-changing weekend.
