RunDisney Announces Newest Race: Tinker Bell Half Marathon

If you’re one of the many runners who have been waiting anxiously to find out about a new race Disney is creating for 2012, I’m going to let you in on the secret a little early. Today at a news conference at Disneyland Resort, we are announcing our newest runDisney event – the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland Resort.

This new race weekend, which will debut Jan. 27-29, will be specifically geared toward women much like our popular Princess Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World and will feature a 5K, kids’ races and a health and fitness expo with merchandise, apparel and fitness tips from leading endurance experts – all tailored for women runners.

More than 10,000 runners are expected to sign up for the inaugural race following today’s announcement involving Elisabeth Hasselbeck, co-host of ABC’s “The View” and Megyn Price, star of the hit TV sitcom “Rules of Engagement.” Hasselbeck is talking about the race during a series of TV interviews and Price, who has already signed up to run the race, is attending the press conference today at Disneyland along with Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait and Disney California Adventure park Vice President Mary Niven.

  • I am excited for this one! Def will train to participate 😀 TY for making these awesome events guys!

  • I’m so excited! I’m not ready for a half marathon yet, but I just signed up for the Never Land 5K. I’m also registered for the Disneyland 5K in September. Thank you for combining my healthy hobby with my favorite place! 8:-D

  • this is awesome! i can hardly wait!

  • Registered as soon as I heard the announcement this morning! I will register for the WDW Princess Half Marathon as soon as it opens! Coast to Coast! Castle to Castle!!

  • When will registration begin for this event??

  • Will this be an annual event? My family participates in the WDW marathon weekend every year and were actually planning to skip it in January 2013 for a trip to Disneyland instead. I hope it will be offered that year too!

  • i want in! 😀

  • I’d love to be a part of something new. Will be participating in my first Disneyland half marathon in September, so this will be something cool to do. Just wish it wasn’t called the Tinker Bell Half marathon 😉

  • Why Jan???? I already do the 5k at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in Jan,…could have used this one in like sept, oct…..

    Now I have to decide…..florida or Cali……

  • where can we register at?

  • I am not ready for a 1/2 marathon, but I will try run the 5k. Where can I register at? This will be my first 5k, so excited.

  • Disney should host another one in Orlando!

  • I will be dusting off my Tink costume from the DL 06 half marathon for this race. Can’t wait. I registered this morning as soon as we got the early FB registration notification. I’ve already got a group of 4 other fairies who will be flying through the course with me and our pixie dust. Looove TINK!! I’ll be sufficiently trained since I’m doing the WDW marathon just 3 weeks before this one as long as I don’t blow it too much on the post race cruise. lol Thanks Disney for letting us have nother DLR race.

  • Does anyone know if walkers are welcome for the 1/2? Our group does full marathons and are all well under the 16 min. mile requirement. We would love to participate, but only if walkers are welcome and not just tolerated….

  • End of January? Ouch – We thought the time between the Marathon weekend and the Princess Half weekend was tight. We have been running the WDW Marathon since 1999 and I have been doing Goofy since it started. Yes my wife and I would like to add Tinkerbell bling to our collection but that’s a fast turn after a week in Florida – kind of hard on school time too. Have to think about it….

  • Lisa – yes, walkers are welcome at the Disney races – there are lots of people who walk them. You just have to be able to maintain a 16 minute/mile pace and finish the race in less than 3-1/2 hours. Sounds like that would be no problem for you!

  • I would do the 5k but part of the cost is for a ticket to the park. I already have an AP, can I use it and get a discount on the registration fee and skip the ticket?

  • This will be my first Half Marathon. My 17 yr old daughter will be joining me. My husband and two other kids are all ready to go on the 5K. What a great event Disney! And love, love the Jan. date. Cool, California weather. Nice to job in! Thanks Disney!

  • Ok Silly Question… Men can do this too right? Once we saw thins on FB, hubby agreed to start training… Coast to Coast… thats what We want to do…
