We have an exciting announcement today for those of you who frequent Downtown Disney. The AMC Downtown Disney 24 movie theater has transformed a section of their property into AMC Dine-In Theatres – special theaters that combine the concept of “dinner and a movie” into a spectacular new in-theater dining experience.
Six theaters in the complex have undergone this transformation and now feature cozy seating and table-top dining. The experience includes reserved seating, table-top dining, and a personal notification button that can be used to quietly call your server at any time during the movie. These theaters also offer an extensive menu that includes appetizers, entrees – like quesadillas, burgers, and flatbread pizzas – desserts, movie theater candy, and more. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages also are available.
I was lucky enough to test this new offering out during a preview last week, and I have to say it really redefined “dinner and a movie” for my husband and I. We no longer had to worry about battling busy restaurants and rushing through our meal in order to make it to the theater in time to snag some great seats. The new dine-in theater experience took care of all of that for us and saved a ton of time.
Ticket prices to see films in AMC Dine-In Theatres range from $6-13, depending on the day of the week and the showtime. Menu items start at $6.59-8.99 for appetizers, and $8.59-11.59 for entrees.

It would be great if you differentiated between Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort in the blog entries about Downtown Disney. This sounds like a fun idea. Any chance this will happen at Disneyland as well?
I cover Walt Disney World 99% of the time, so any time you see my name/photo, know it’s something for Walt Disney World.
What sort of movies will be on tap? Recent releases, classic flicks? Because I thought AMC was a purveyor of classic American films…

You’re thinking of AMC the television channel, which does run classic films. AMC the movie theater chain shows current films. 🙂

I was lucky enough to get in a couple times for their soft opening last week while I was at DisneyWorld. The food is incredible and remarkably reasonably priced. I loved the coconut-thai chicken tenders and the tuscany pepperoni pizza on flatbread.
The rest of the crew loved having alcoholic drinks available while watching the movie.
Wasn’t the food HUGE? Our appetizer was big enough for four adults. Our entree could’ve fed two!
This sounds great and we’re headed to DW this summer. Any idea how far ahead of time you can reserve tickets? I’m guessing the week of so showtimes can be released, but would hate to miss out if we can somehow book earlier.

I’d love to try it (caught SW Episode 3 at AMC the same week as SW Weekend at the Studios park), but darn, it’s just a bigger concession stand with better drink holders–
I’d been hoping for something like the Sci-Fi Dine-In, where we get table seats on a level floor. 🙂 Stadium seating, darkness, and nacho cheese is an accident waiting to happen.
This is completely different – cushy seats that are more spread out than a regular theater, a counter top-style table for your food, etc. The seats are also spread out enough that you don’t hear other guests interacting with their servers – at least that was my experience.
I am a bit confused about the wording on the poster outside the Theater. I saw this 2 weeks ago and it said for Guests over 18 accompanied by an adult…yet the photo shows a child, do they mean must be over 18 unless accompanied by an adult ?
Yes, minors must be accompanied by an adult (who is responsible for paying for dinner!).
Do these theathers have stadium seating? If so in in! 😀
I don’t know if these theaters are considered “stadium” seating or not. The stadium seating theaters I’ve been in here in Orlando have been REALLY steep, which may be a bit dangerous for servers delivering food. Regardless, with the addition of counter-top tables, the seating has been spaced out a bit more, which means you get a great view no matter where you sit.
(I’m on my fiance’s account/name)… I will be at Walt Disney World for my honeymoon in July, right around the time Harry Potter will be coming out, do you think they’ll be playing that while we are there? Or is it strictly disney movies they play? We are staying at one of the resort hotels, I’ve never been to disneyworld (only disneyland in cali), is it in the parks? Or is downtown disney more like just down town in orlando?
Nope, they play all movies at Downtown Disney (although it seems that a few Disney movies stick around for a longer run that at other theaters). Downtown Disney is our shopping/dining/entertainment complex – it is NOT inside a theme park. If you’re staying at a Disney resort, there will be buses that run directly there. What a great idea! If I lived in the area I would definitely appreciate the combo, but as for my visits to Disneyland, I don’t see myself tearing away from the parks to see a movie. Hopefully AMC adapts this idea in other theaters across the country. I wouldn’t mind a glass of Chardonnay while I watch the new Pirates movie!

In the description above it states “The experience includes reserved seating….” and I simply can’t find anywhere to do so or anyone who can show me how. I have called Disney Dining and they can’t make them, and there’s no answer at Guest Services through AMC. I did leave a message but in the meantime thought I’d ask your advice.

You may have to do it in person at AMC. The entrance is at the Planet Hollywood side, and they have computer screens showing you available seats for your party size. You pick your seat there, get a numbered ticket, and head inside. Try calling AMC directly at (888)262-4386.
Hi folks. “The experience involves reserved seating” just means that unlike a regular movie auditorium, where it is festival seating, when your ticket is issued for this specific showing, you will be assigned a specific seat location in the auditorium.
Here’s how it works:
1) You buy a ticket (either a) via online ticket service or b)in person at the theater.)
2) when you have paid for your ticket (or handed over your Fandango ticket voucher), the lovely young man/woman behind the counter will indicate a screen showing you which seats are still available for the showing you are attending, and ask you which ones you wish to sit it.
3) You are handed your tickets and told to have a nice day…
Hmmm…this sounds a lot like airline travel without the baggage claim.
It is not a “oh-my-word-call-Disney-Dining-make-a-mad-dash-and-sit-on-hold-for-the-last-two-seats-to-see-the-9:27-seating-with-Princess Aurora” situation.

I can almost guarantee the Happy Potter films will be playing here as well as everywhere else, but that’s OK. Even after 3 hours of the Boy Wizard you still will have another 6 days more of Disney Magic.
AMC plays movies from all studios. Just because it is located on Disney property doesn’t not make it totally 100% strictly Disney.
Downtown Disney is a shopping and entertainment center that is located on the resort property, It is closest to the Saratoga Springs Resort Hotel and the Old Key West Resort Hotel, as well as the Walt Disney World Hotel Plaza hotels. It is not near any of the theme parks.
You can get maps of the resort online to help you plan, or contact Disney for a Vacation Planning DVD which will help you figure it out as well.

I thought I remembered that some of the restaurants at Downtown Disney could be paid for on the Disney Dining Plan. Do you know if reservations for the Dinner and a Movie can be paid for in a similar manner? That would be amazing if it could count as a Sit-down meal! 🙂
