Who out there loves the Muppets?

Muppet*Vision 3-D at Disney's Hollywood Studios

These friendly characters made their theme park debut May 16, 1991, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the form of a new attraction, Muppet*Vision 3-D (originally named Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3-D).

The attraction, which celebrates its 20th anniversary today, offers families an up-close look at classic Muppet characters, such as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and others, in a film-going experience that combines 3-D technology with Audio-Animatronics figures and special effects. In the flick, Kermit gives guests a backstage tour of the cool things being developed in Muppet Labs. He also introduces Waldo C. Graphic, the first computer-generated Muppets character, who gets into mischief throughout the tour and sets off a series of events that truly “brings the house down.”

More than 18 Muppets characters are featured in Muppet*Vision 3-D. Can you name a few? I’ll start with my favorite, Bean Bunny!

Comments

  • We love the muppets! My husband loves the pre-show more than the actual show and makes me sit and wait until we have watched the whole thing once through. Sometimes twice!

  • The Muppet Show is available on DVD, so we do not need to worry about losing the Muppets’ past. 🙂

  • Change is not necessarily a bad thing. (Walt wanted Disneyland to change.)

So if the Imagineers ever decide to update Muppet*Vision, (whether it be in Florida or California) I’m open to it.

  • Now that Star Tour got updated, any plan to get new Muppetvision 3D film?

  • “I’d love to see some meet and greets with the Muppets to celebrate the new movie…a girl can hope 🙂 ”

Yeah, whatever happened to Kermit and Piggy doing character meets out in front of the theater? Still have pictures from my first time at the “MGM” park, but they haven’t shown up for the past six or seven years.

  • Muppet veteran Steve Whitmire has been performing Kermit since 1990 and I think that he’s done a great job.

In recent years, Frank Oz decided to focus on his directing career and Muppet performer Eric Jacobson has been doing great job with Frank’s characters.

  • …I don’t care what anyone says, as a Muppet fan, I am looking forward to the new Muppet movie, I have heard good things about it.

I’m glad that the Muppets are doing new things.

Some people (like myself) prefer to be cautiously optimistic. 🙂

  • Did anyone mention Janice? She rides by on a bicycle. LOVE the Muppets – I grew up watching the Muppet Show, and my sister and I can pretty much recite all of Muppetvision 3D.

I’d love to see some meet and greets with the Muppets to celebrate the new movie…a girl can hope 🙂

  • …Also, David Rudman has been doing a great a job with all of Richard Hunt’s characters.

  • To Muppet fans (and I’m NOT looking foward to the new movie, shudder), MV3D was the Last Great Hurrah, and the finale party we didn’t know we were getting:
The last time Jim Henson played Kermit. The last time Richard Hunt played Scooter. (And the last time Statler and Waldorf had their real voices.) One of the last times Jim Henson directed (even if he was trying to sell us on Waldo for the 80’s NBC series). The red-curtained theater. Frank Oz still playing Fozzie and Piggy. A likable Rizzo, from a friendlier time before Pepe Prawn never existed.

…If we ever lose this attraction, Muppet fans lose a part of their past. 🙁

    • I know of NO plans to get rid of Muppets.

  • Happy birthday, Muppet*Vision 3-D!

The film still holds up after all these years. Miss Piggy being annoyed by Bean during her rendition of “Dream A Little Dream” and Sam the Eagle’s tribute to all nations (but mostly America) are moments that remind me why the Muppets are so wonderful.

  • It IS the best 3-D show. Oh, and they can’t add Elmo. He’s on Sesame Street which is a different property owned by Children’s Television Workshop.

  • I’m not muppetmama for nothing. without looking at anyone else’s posts: kermit, fozzie, miss piggy, bean bunny, staler, waldorf, swedish chef, sweetums, sam the eagle, gonzo, skooter, rizzo (dressed as mickey in the preshow is a fave moment), the penguins, a bunch of small-world-esque revolutionary war soldiers, beeker, dr. bunsen honeydew, animal, floyd and I dont remember are Dr. Teeth and zoot in the film?

I don’t think they would put Elmo in. He’s not technically a muppet and sesame street already has a gig with sea world.

  • Muppet*Vision 3-D is a GREAT show! The pre-show is as good as the actual show and shouldn’t be missed. I also like the subtle nod to “it’s a small world” during the “glorious 3 hour finale.” Errr… I mean, the minute and a half finale.

    • The phrase “glorious three-hour finale” spoken in Sam Eagle’s serious tone is RIDICULOUS! Ha ha ha!

  • I love the muppets I just hope when/if they redo the show they don’t stick Elmo in he annoys me so much. :-p

  • And please…..Let us not forget Miss Piggy! She cracks me up every time!

  • My favorite show in all of the Walt Disney World parks!
Whenever I go to any of the parks I always get a park hopper so I can see it. Sad it is Jim Henson’s last work before he passed away, but his memory lives on in this wonderful film.

  • Muppet*Vision is awesome!

I love the Muppets. My favorite Muppet is Gonzo.

I’m really looking forward to the new Muppets movie!

  • My favorite 3D show they have!!! Although Captain EO is a VERY close second!!!! Gotta love the Muppets!!

  • -oh and the Pengins…How was that?

    • Pretty good!

  • Let me take a crack at it: Kirmit, Fozzy, Miss Piggy, Bean Bunny, the Great Gonzo, Sam Eagle, Floid, Scotter, Waldlof, Hector, Becor, Dr. Benson Hunnydo, Rizzo, Sweedom, the Sweedish Chieff, and Waldo.

  • Beaker has to be my favorite!! Meep Meep Meep Meep.

    • I also like Dr. Teeth, purely because his name is “Dr. Teeth.”

  • I would love to see a big update to this attraction when the new Muppets movie comes out. Is there anything planned?

  • The best 3-D attraction in Disney World! Sam Eagle is my favorite for his glorious tribute to all nations but mostly America.

    • I have to say that Sam Eagle is another favorite. That line always makes me crack up!

  • Sam the Eagle steals the show!

  • Sweetums fozie gonzo miss piggy loyd Swedish chef Kermit rizo Sam the eagle dr bunson honeydew and beaker
