It’s a Soundsational Summer at the Disneyland Resort

Star Tours at Disneyland Park

Combining great storytelling with the latest technology has been a hallmark of The Walt Disney Company from the very beginning, and that spirit continues with the opening of two fantastic new attractions at the Disneyland Resort. Over the last two days, we officially launched Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disneyland park and The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure park.

The force is now strong with us on both coasts as Star Tours opened at Disneyland park this week and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando just a few weeks ago. Working closely with our partners at Lucasfilm, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue combines the latest in digital 3D technology with new characters and locales from all six of the Star Wars films. With more than 50 different story combinations, guests will never know just where the Force may take them. I’ve ridden in it a dozen times already and have yet to experience the same ride twice.

The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

With the addition of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, Disney California Adventure park continues to generate new energy as we take another big step forward in our expansion of the park. This all-new attraction mixes the latest Audio-Animatronics technology with classic Disney storytelling to bring the undersea world of Ariel, Sebastian and Flounder to life like never before. And we will see another Little Mermaid-themed attraction at Magic Kingdom Park in a few years when our Fantasyland expansion at Walt Disney World Resort is complete.

Of course, if you’ve been to Disney California Adventure park lately, you’ve seen that we have a lot more still in the works. From the newly imagined entry point of Buena Vista Street to the stunning new Cars Land, all of our teams are hard at work as we head into the home stretch of our multi-year expansion effort.

'Mickey’s Soundsational Parade'

As if all of this weren’t enough, last week we premiered “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade,” an all-new parade at Disneyland Resort that is proving to be another great addition to the resort’s live entertainment offerings.

So whether you choose to hop in a Starspeeder 1000 and head for the stars, take a journey to “fathoms below” or just sit on a curb and watch the parade go by, there truly is something for everyone at the Disneyland Resort this summer. I’m tremendously proud of all of the Imagineers and cast members who have worked so hard to make these new experiences a reality and can’t wait for all of you to have a chance to enjoy them.

  • We are THRILLED with the new additions to the resort and can’t wait to get there in 16 days! We’re dying to ride Little Mermaid and Star Tours and see Soundsational. Great work, Disney!

  • Thanks for the post Tom!
Man, hard to believe that it was almost a year ago that I was watching in person the opening ceremony for World of Color. I still love the way that you and Bob Iger interacted with Mickey. 🙂

Its definitely going to be a very exciting summer at the Disneyland Resort. I’m glad that Star Tours and the Little Mermaid ride are now officially open.
As far as the immediate future, I’m looking forward to the opening of Goofy’s Sky School and the new dining area in Paradise Pier.

And I cannot wait for the opening of Cars Land. Its going to be so awesome!

  • You must be very proud, Tom. Every time my family and I visit Disneyland we are always immersed in a land of fantasy and dreams brought to life. These new rides mixed with the new parade and the attentiveness and care of the Disney cast members make Disney Parks such a delight to visit and enjoy. We’re planning our next trip as we speak and all the coverage here has really gotten us excited. Keep up the great work and we’ll keep on coming!

  • Anyone remember the Soundsation pin event back in 2002? 🙂

  • We are THRILLED with the new changes this summer and can’t wait to get to the resort in 16 days! Way to go, Imagineers and show directors!

  • Saw the parade – it’s very fun! My favorite units are Mary Poppins – they actually have the chimney sweep dancers! – and the Tangled float with the other DISNEY princesses riding along!

  • The parade is spectacular! The costuming, floats, and coreography are beautiful, whimsical, and enchanting! The music is truly “Soundsational”! (And who knew Mickey could play the drums so well?) I look forward to seeing it again and again. This is truly another Disney parade triumph.

On a sad note, I just found out that Wally Boag passed away yesterday. A Disney Legend and soundsational talent that will remain in the hearts of us all forever. I think of him every time I attend the Tiki Room. Do you know if any videos/film of him performing at the original Golden Horseshoe Revue exists?
    Best regards,
    Alan

  • I’m so looking forward to sharing The Little Mermaid -Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure park with my grandchildren. Ariel is one of their (and my) favorites!! I also can’t wait to see them dancing along with Mickey’s Soundsational Parade. Disneyland, here we come!!

  • We try to make it to DL a couple of times a year. We love it when there is new attractions! I can’t wait to go in a couple of months! I was just wondering if guests are allowed to sit on the curb for the parade? Can’t wait to find out!
