Hi everyone. I’m happy to announce that Lightning McQueen, star of “Cars” and “Cars 2,” will make his debut appearance at the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios later this summer.

Look for his cameo when the stunt show director sets up a highlight reel dedicated to “one of the greatest race cars of all time.” But just as the crew leaves to set up for the next stunt demonstration, the highlight video feed is interrupted with a distress call from Mater, Lightning’s rusty sidekick. He warns the audience that secret agent Finn McMissile has issued a report of enemy spy activity at “these here coordinates.” Lightning McQueen speeds in to calm the audience down and explains that Mater is probably just telling tall tales again.

Just then, a mysterious black automobile appears on the stage. I don’t want to give away all the details here, but let’s just say what follows is quite an animated game of cat and mouse.

Guests who wish to meet Lightning McQueen and Mater before or after the show can do so at the Winner’s Circle (formerly Luigi’s Garage), which features larger-than-life trophies and posters that depict famous races from around the world. Be sure to check out Lightning McQueen’s upgraded international look, too.

  • Will the US Version be the same as what is running in Paris right now?

  • That sounds like the cutest thing ever! I can’t wait to see it! We love cars. Watched it twice last night.

  • Nice to see the adaptation of Disney to bring in a curent racer for our generation . Good job.

  • To Michele No meet and Greet since April. One would think Social Media Maanager would know this, and want to get the correct info out to the public??? One would hope.

  • To Dan @ comment 18 – the Lightning and Mater are probably getting new paint jobs for their “upgraded international look”

  • My son is going to be soo excited – he already watches Cars often and has many of the cars from the movie. We took him to see the stunt show last year and he loved it so much we saw every show that day. In between the shows we visted w/McQueen and Mater @ Luigi’s garage for hours. Now to have them both in the same place!! I know where we will be on our next DHS day! If I ever get a windfall of money I will definately reserve a “Cars” suite at the Art of Animation Resort.

  • Jennifer
No meet and greet!! Phineas and Ferb now! We were sad to find out the only “cars” in the park was the mural in the back!! cast members did not know this either!!!

  • My grandson, Henry, will love this! Lighting McQueen is one of his favorites!! The show is spectacular and adding Lightening McQueen will make it ever better!

  • I really, Really, REALLY hope McQueen stays to at least January when we’ll be there. My daughter is super excited to meet the princesses, and my son has talked about meeting Lightning McQueen. I didn’t know how to explain to him that might not happen, because I didn’t think it would be possible, but now…I can’t imagine how super excited he will be if he actually will be able to!

  • Told my 7 and 3 year old sons this news and they are super excited!! Can’t wait to see this new addition in October.

  • I really hope this is a permanent (or at least multi-year) addition. We were just in Disney this March, and won’t be back for about 2 years. But, we may need to bump that up if Lightning McQueen is temporary.

    • I have no end-date info for his appearance. Herbie was a part of the show for a pretty long time.

  • Best Idea ever!!!! My son is obsessed to say the least. So much so that I made the town of Radiator Springs out of boxes painted to look like it, for his 4th b-day. I’m already trying to figure out how to do a huge Ferris wheel, Eiffel tower, Big Ben and a Japanese scene for his 6th b-day. Can’t wait for the movie and hopefully we will be visiting Mr McQueen in Jan.

  • I was wondering if Lightning would become part of the show, we saw it when the original started and I have to say that it was cool but I was not really impressed which is hard for me to say about anything Disney does. I am looking forward to checking it out when we are there if Lightning has made his debut.

  • unfortunately not in 2 weeks I am not guessing though– will catch im the next time. Will the updated car be there for pics soon however ?

  • My toddler loved it when we were there in March, he talked about this show non stop! And to know that Lightning would be there 🙁 We really need another trip, he’d be in heaven seeing that race car.

    • There’s also a character meet and greet with Lightning & Mater! Don’t forget about that.

  • that will be awesome to watch! I can’t wait to see it in person on Dec 2011!

  • Will the original show be coming back at any point, or is this a permanent addition to the show?

  • Gonna miss Herbie. ;_;

    • You’ll still be able to see Herbie in the Backlot Tour!

  • We finally watched this at Disneyland Paris last year and really enjoyed it, our 7yr old son was just amazed at it all. He loves LM so we can’t wait to see it again with him in it 🙂

  • More “Cars” in the parks is always a good thing…a fine addition to the stunt show!

    • I think it’s a great match!

  • What will happen to Herbie when Lightning McQueen takes over? As much as I and my two-year-old love ‘Cars’, we were both looking forward to seeing Herbie during our upcoming trip in Sept.

    • No date has been announced yet. Regardless, they can still spot Herbie in the Backlot Tour at the park.

  • That’s awesome! We just saw that show last week on our trip- how I wish Lightning would have been there! Maybe next year. 🙂

  • “later this summer”? Do we know when? I’m lucky enough to live locally, and would love to make a special trip out to see Lightening!

    • No precise opening date has been announced yet. Keep checking back.

  • Wow…what a great idea!! This was a show that we planned on skipping our next trip because I wasn’t sure my toddler son would sit through it, however NOW it will be a must do!! He loves Cars and will love seeing Lightning in “real life”!!

    • I’m excited to take my son to see it (and “Cars 2”) this summer, too!
