New Games from Disney Interactive Studios Featured at E3

At last week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Disney Interactive Studios showed off three new games releasing later this year. I was excited to drop by their E3 booth and try out some of the games myself – and I brought back a glimpse into each game for Disney Parks Blog readers!

First, I got to “test-fly” Kinect: Disneyland Adventures with Kudo Tsunoda, general manager and creative director for Microsoft Game Studios. Available this holiday season, the game uses Xbox Kinect technology to allow the player to explore Disneyland park, step into adventures based on park attractions and interact with characters like Mickey Mouse and Cinderella. Tsunoda explained that the focus of the game is to “really deliver an authentic Disneyland experience into people’s homes.”

Next I played Disney Universe with Disney Interactive Studios Producer Mark Orgel. Disney Universe mixes characters and stories from across many Disney and Disney•Pixar films. Players can “suit up” as different characters and team up to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. The game releases this Fall for all major consoles.

Finally, Disney Interactive Studios Assistant Producer Corey Valencia and I played the upcoming multi-platform game Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension. Inspired by the upcoming Disney Channel original movie, this game allows you to play as your favorite character from the series. We played it on the PlayStation Move, which allowed for a few extra abilities – although I really enjoyed the Carbonator, which fires orange soda at enemies. The game will be available later this Summer.

  • Big fan of Disney’s Epic Mickey for Wii! Hope Disney will announce a new one soon. Also looking forward to seeing more about the next Kingdom Hearts on 3DS!

  • Those games look like so much fun! I cant wait!

  • wow! I want to play them all! 🙂

  • This looks ok, but it’s not really my cup of tea. It looks essentially like Kinect Adventures with a Disney twist, which is fine if you like that, but in my opinion those games get old really fast.

On the other hand, I thought Junction Point did a fantastic job on Disney Epic Mickey and I’d love to see more of that. I know Warren Spector has said he has ideas for a trilogy of Epic Mickey games and I really hope that he gets a chance to see that through. I honestly felt it was the best story Mickey has been in since 1940, and I was really disappointed to hear of the layoffs that happened at Junction Point.

More Epic Mickey, less Disneyland Adventures please. And it’d be fantastic if you remade Epic Mickey for the PS3 or Xbox 360 with HD graphics.

  • Loved Lego Pirates. Would love to see another Pirates of the Caribbean Video Game!

  • Oh My Gosh! I am so excited for the Disneyland game:) How AWESOME is that! Our whole family is going to love it! What a perfect way to get in some Disneyland fun inbetween trips.

  • Disney, you already had an awesome game where you could walk around tne park, greet charcters
Play mini games, buy souvenirs and have fun with friends and family. It was
Called VMK and you chose to upset alot of people by shutting it down.
I don’t have a game system to play disneyland adventures-maybe you
Should consider a game for the computer that will once again give your themepark fans
A way to play in the parks from home!

  • Would love for you to release a similar game on the PC without the kinetic games part… would just be nice to take a virtual walk down Main Street USA (while walking on my real life treadmill!) My wife says I complain about walking at home but for some reason I feel no pain at WDW or DLR! 🙂

  • Can’t wait until Disneyland Adventures, since I never been to Disneyland I hope this gives me sort of a sneak peek to the real thing! Hope it’ll be as good as it looks, but knowing Disney it’s sure to be a hit!
