I love sharing New Fantasyland updates with our readers, and this one is no exception. Our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) recently created a behind-the-scenes video on the creation of New Fantasyland to feature within the One Man’s Dream exhibit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. (This attraction showcases Disney milestone projects of the past, and now includes a preview area of exciting projects WDI is currently working on at Magic Kingdom Park).
WDI also shared the following teaser video with us, which focuses on one of these exciting new projects: the Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid attraction. The expanded video will debut at One Man’s Dream this week.
In the video, Imagineer Chris Beatty gives us a sneak peek at the making of Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid through some never-before-seen sketches, artist renderings, attraction maps and more, and shares some details on Prince Eric’s castle and the attraction’s creative queue. Imagineer Eric Miller also takes us onsite to see the current state of the attraction’s progress.
Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of many attractions planned as a part of the Fantasyland expansion currently taking place at Magic Kingdom Park. The new Fantasyland is set to open in phases beginning in late 2012.

Is this very similar to the Finding Nemo attraction @ Epcot??
We’ve been coming, as a family, since 1972. Always happy when new attractions open. Kids (ages 39,46,47) are as excited as grandkids,
Thanks so much for this update! I’ve been wondering about the differences between this attraction and DCA attraction. I do agree with Brian’s post above me =)
California’s version was amazing! Can’t wait to see how Florida does it!
now this sounds more like disney, not bowling
Do you think a new parade will be coming to Magic Kingdom it’s been since like 2001 over here in Orlando since we got one! I love soundsational! It’s amazing saw it a couple weeks ago when I was up visiting family in the Anaheim area!
Thank you so much you truly are what creates magic here at the parks. I can’t believe you remebered me thats awesome! That’s why Disney sticks out from everyone! Hey got a quick question was over at Magic Kingdom this weekend and they changed the times for the “Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade” and Move-it-Shake-it celebrate street party. I was informed this was because of crowd control and that by the end of the year Magic Kingdom would be getting an entirely new parade! Is this true! Thanks for creating magic!
Rob
I haven’t heard anything like this, but if I do, the blog will be the place to read all about it!
Hey thanks so much about this update! Any idea what’s goin in on those tents over at toon town? When r u gonna do another update on toontown?
Soon enough to make even the most eager Disney passholders happy. 🙂
This is going to be so incredible I cannot wait!
My daughter and I were planning a trip back to WDW in October 2012. After watching this clip, we have decided to wait until 2013 so that we can experience both the new Fantasyland AND the Art of Animation Resort! Exciting!
I’m so excited about this! My daughter and I both LOVE Ariel and she is definitely our favorite princess too! I can’t wait until it’s finished. I was trying to plan a trip for next year during Star Wars weekend for my twin 7 year old boys but now, I’m wondering if any of Under the Sea will be done by then. If not, I guess we’ll have to come later in the year for her. I’m so excited!!!
Thanks for sharing this, Jennifer.
Will you be offering new info about Storybook Circus in your next article? I really want to hear info on Pete’s Silly Sideshow and Big Top Souvenirs.
I’ll share all the info I can as soon as I get something to release. I love doing these updates.
The teaser videos for the California version were really exciting, but the finished ride, not as much. I guess I’ll wait to see if the Florida version comes out as amazing as the teaser video leads you to believe.
Wow! Sounds like this ride is going to offer even more than its California counterpart!
What other changes are there going to be here versus CA?
So it is exactly like the one at DCA execpt it has a different line que and different facade.
This looks almost exactly like the new Mermaid ride at DCA. Will it have different elements inside other than the castle?
I’ve been told by WDI that there will be slight differences. What those differences are, I’m not sure yet.
I am extatic that this is happening! Fantasyland has needed this for quite a while and the more we learn, the more exciting it is!
We are planning a trip in 2012 for my daughters and my graduation, when will fantasyland be open, this would be an excellent addition to our 8th trip to disney!!!
I love your blog and get so excited when you do a post on the Fantasy Land expansion. It will be wonderful. I know the expansion is slated to open in phases starting in late 2012. Do you know when a more specific timeline will be available?
Thanks so much. I love sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes looks with you – it makes my day! I don’t have a specific timeline yet. As soon as one is announced, the blog will probably be the one to break it.
This is gonna be awesome! I can’t wait to see it when it opens.
I’m EXTREMELY excited for the addition of this and other attractions to the Fantasyland expansion. Ariel is by far my favorite Disney Princess, and I’m happy to see her FINALLY being more included in the park, instead of just a rare meet-and-greet/performance figure. As soon as this area of the park opens, I’m booking a room in the “Little Mermaid” themed wing of the new Disney’s Art of Animation resort, and checking it out!
Wow, you are a mermaid fan, aren’t you!
where can I get that toy story stinky pete that is in the background?
WOW, this is amazing! How far through construction is the first phase? When you say late 2012, you mean the fall or spring? Again great job, I cant wait! Ill will be there on opening day!
Oh I can not wait for this! It is going to absolutely amazing! I love finding more and more reasons to go back to Walt Disney World! 🙂
Wow! So excited! We were supposed to make a trip to WDW this year, but were not able to, my daughter’s favorite princess is Ariel. Will have to try and make a trip out there sometime in 2013. Can’t wait for this attraction and well as the the Belle attraction!
I’m excited, too. Can’t wait to cover the opening and share it all with all of you!
Going to WDW in September! Definitely going to stop by One Mans Dream! Can’t wait for Fantasyland to be complete! 🙂
