As you know, our 40th anniversary celebration begins in just a few hours but before the blog team heads out to Magic Kingdom Park we’re sharing something special – and it’s worth a close look.

Walt Disney World - 40th Anniversary Map

You can now download a digital version of the commemorative map that’s only available today in the park. We think it’s pretty cool and chances are you will too. Notice the quote at the top of the map, “Believe me, it’s the most exciting and challenging assignment we have ever tackled at Walt Disney Productions,” – Walt Disney.

Be sure and check our @WaltDisneyWorld Twitter account at around 10 a.m. for updates as we celebrate at Magic Kingdom. Jennifer will also share video from the day right here later today.

Hope to see you in the park.

  • I will be there tomorrow! I’m a bit sad that we’re not going to be there on the actual anniversary of the Magic Kingdom, but we get to experience Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party tomorrow night, and we couldn’t be more excited!

  • Since I can’t be at the Magic Kingdom, I’m going to Disneyland instead!

  • Downtown Disney tonight! The Magic Kingdom tomorrow!!

  • I bet a lot of people will be asking where the Skyway is today!

  • Thanks a lot for the map!!
I live in Chile, I’m a huge Disney fan but I couldn’t join you in the celebration but I’m following all the tweets.
I had my own celebration (with my mom) in my last trip, in last May.
Keep doing the same great job as always!

  • I wish I could have been there today! I do have the original map though. Got it on my first trip there in February 1972. Happy Anniversary Walt Disney World! If you can’t be there like me, be sure to go to the Disney Store online and get your commemorative T-Shirt!

  • Happy Birthday WDW Sorry i cant be there today but i will be visiting you at the end of november for thanksgiven

  • Happy birthday to WDW. Thank you for your sharing of this nice map. Though we are now at the another side of the world, we also enjoy the joyful atmosphere by celebrating birthday of WDW.

  • I wish I could be there today, but I will be arriving in 1 week for another vacation with friends and family!! Love the map!! Thanks Disney for sharing it online with us!

  • so many beloved attractions listed on this map that are no longer with us. Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride; 20,000 League Under The Sea; the Skyway. not to mention no Space, Splash, or Big Thunder Mountains… 🙁

But, on the other hand, the park has been constantly changing and adapting for the last 40 years. so here’s to another 40! Happy 40th Birthday Magic Kingdom, and Happy 29th Birthday to EPCOT!

  • Happy Anniversary WDW! I appreciate how the images on the right hand side of the commemorative map highlight some the biggest mistakes Park Management ever made, the removal of the Omnibus, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride (the most egregious removal of all), the Tom Fink Keelboats, The Mickey Mouse Revue, the Skyway, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, not to mention Orange Bird’s appearance all over the 40th Anniversary merchandise. Ahhhh…to enjoy a citrus swirl at the original Sunshine Tree Terrace while waiting for Tropical Serenade, that was truly magical. At least Team Orlando was smart enough to bring a close-to-the original version of Tropical Serenade back to the Terrace. Now if we could only meet-and-greet Orange Bird again. See you next Summer, WDW!

  • This poster holds the power of Disney-to dream.

  • I had the pleasure of watching the presentation (from a distance…. the crowed was HUGE) today and I picked up one of those nice maps too! I’m going to hang it on my wall when I get home. Nice peice of Disney history right there!

    Happy 40th Magic Kingdom!

  • What does the cover of the map look like? 😀

  • I was at the 40th and the Wishes Firework spectacular was AMAZING!! 😀 i’m lucky enough to have a couple of these maps but they ran out of pins before i got there.

Evan- the front of the map looked like the old ticket book used when the park first opened! 🙂

  • We couldn’t be there opening day ,we will be there in November to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Happy 40th Birthday Magic Kingdom!!!

  • I’ve been collecting park maps since I was 8, so creating this map was truly a labor of love. It was important that Magic Kingdom have this piece of heritage on this special day and I’m glad everyone seemed to like it!

  • I have a framed copy of that map in my office. Its much bigger than the Guide Maps of today. It is almost 25″ x 28″. It is a keepsake I’ll treasure forever 😀
