Have you experienced the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights?
This annual display of holiday cheer, which features millions of dazzling lights, will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios tonight.
From now until Jan. 7, 2012, the cityscape and building facades in the park’s Backlot area will be draped in multicolored lights that periodically “dance” to holiday tunes. In addition to the buildings, the area will also feature illuminated carousels, angels, Santa Claus and other figures. (The spectacle will not be operational on Dec. 8).
This offering actually began in 1986 in Arkansas, at the home of businessman Jennings Osborne, who strung one million lights as a Christmas gift to his daughter. The exhibit was transported to Disney in 1995 and is a popular holiday draw for many guests.

Only a clue. The purple cat is watching a game of basketball. 😉
Mark.
This is a lovely memorial to Mr. Osborne, who died earlier this year. It was a terrible loss :(.
I’m curious why there is no show on December 8th, what is different about that day?
There’s just something a little extra magical about Disney World during the Holiday season and these lights are no exception! I have to agree with Jackie. My friends and I saw them for the first time last year and it was absolutely incredible! Taking pictures and seeing videos doesn’t do them justice. We loved our trip so much that we’re coming again this season and bringing more friends with us! 4 and a 1/2 weeks and we’ll be Walt Disney World bound!
That would be grandson not grandon!! Whoops!
The lights are truly magical! Do you know where the name “GaGa’s House” comes from? We were flabergasted to see that! My grandon calls me GaGa. Thanks
That’s actually a reference to one of Jennings Osborne’s family members, who’s nickname was GaGa.
The lights are breathtaking, literally! When we went last year, we happened to come upon them from around a building and when we stepped into the street we gasped and stood there with our mouths open! 🙂 We spent quite a while there making sure to take it all in from every angle we could. This is one of those wonders that cannot be captured in pictures. (Kind of like trying to take pictures of the Grand Canyon…) Loved it and we will be back for a return visit someday!
I love the lights!! Do you have any clues as to where we can find the black cat this year? 🙂
How beautiful!
And the picture of a boy & a girl is so cute!
I love this picture. I’m so happy we can share it!
Awesome display of lights. One of the highlights of our trip last Christmas.
