Every holiday season, I have this dream that I am going to get my shopping done early. I’ve been having this dream for years now as I never seem to finish early. I could be like my grandfather who used to go shopping on December 24 at the Five and Dime store, but that’s too much pressure. So if you have a similar dream, then this weekend would be a great opportunity to get started and make a difference in the local Central Florida community at The Benefit Sale.
In mid-October, my fellow Disney Parks Blog author Kathleen Prihoda first announced the return of The Benefit Sale to the Downtown Disney Marketplace on November 5. This event is a one day shopping opportunity that helps you save and give back. I spoke with Mark Pulley, Program Manager for Community Relations at Walt Disney World Resort, about the importance of this event.
“We know that there are people across Central Florida who are in need of help,” explained Mark. “Disney supports the Heart of Florida United Way, who has identified ways to assist those in need in our community. Each year, our Cast Members support the United Way through our internal fundraising campaign. The Benefit Sale is a great way for Central Florida residents and our guests to help United Way provide some relief to those in need, plus enjoy some fantastic discounts.”
Mark has been a member of the Community Relations team since 1999. I used to work with him years ago when I served as a Disney Ambassador, and I know firsthand that the work they do helps make a difference where I live.
To participate this Saturday, you need to purchase a Benefit Sale Voucher for $5. All proceeds from the vouchers will support the Heart of Florida United Way with their initiatives in the Central Florida community. Once you exchange the voucher for a wristband on November 5, you can enjoy great discounts of 25 percent off select merchandise items from 5:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at select Downtown Disney Marketplace locations. Participating locations will include World of Disney, Tren-D, Team Mickey, Disney Days of Christmas, Once Upon A Toy, Disney Pin Traders, Mickey’s Pantry and Marketplace Fun Finds.
There will also be doorbuster deals featuring specially priced merchandise. One of my favorite deals will be specially priced tote bags, which could be used as gift wrapping (reusable wrapping is all the rage in my world). Doorbuster deals will be available while supplies last of course.
In addition to 25 percent off select merchandise at the previously listed locations, several operating participant merchandise and food locations at Downtown Disney will be offering a variety of deals for Benefit Sale participants.
Representatives from the Heart of Florida United way will be outside the Ghirardelli location at Downtown Disney Marketplace on Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. if you are interested in purchasing a voucher to this event.
I hope you will be able to join us.
