Homeschool Days at Walt Disney World Resort

Author Ridley Pearson Gives a Special Presentation at Disney Homeschool Days at Walt Disney World Resort.

We recently wrapped up another successful Disney Homeschool Days at the Walt Disney World Resort and this year’s spring event coincided with Florida Literacy Week. To commemorate this important topic, Ridley Pearson, author of the Kingdom Keepers and Peter and the Starcatchers book series, joined the Disney Youth Programs team to give a special presentation to participants.

Nearly 800 students from around the country gathered at the Premiere Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to hear Ridley speak about his inspirations, writing process and literary career. Afterward, students participated in a Q&A with the author to dig deeper into his experiences as a writer. Participants were also able to take part in Kingdom Keepers Quest, our new self-guided quest through the Magic Kingdom Park that follows clues from the book series.

Twice each year, Disney Homeschool Days invites homeschoolers, virtual students and community groups to participate in career-building workshops and experiences, as well as take part in special Disney Youth Education Series programs. Disney Homeschool Days are just one of the many opportunities for learning and fun that you’ll find at our Disney theme parks. Students can also take advantage of special Disney Youth Education Series programs designed for small group and individual enrollment during select dates each year.

Stay tuned for details on our next event coming up this fall, and visit www.disneyyouth.com for more information on all of the Disney Youth Programs offerings.

  • We would LOVE to participate in this program as local residents, passholders, and homeschoolers! Please consider making this available with an annual pass admission, keeping in mind that many homeschooling families have sacrificed financially in their decision to homeschool, and cannot afford park tickets in addition to their annual passes. Thanks!

  • We are bummed that we were not able to make it this year. It looks like it was a great turnout!

    Yeah homeschoolers!!!

  • I’m with you Kelly, I would have loved to have known about this awesome program!! I have two home schooled children and we just return from Walt Disney World. I would have made different plans to attend this event had I known about this before. We are passholders and would have loved to have that info in our newsletter! Maybe next year.

  • Wow, I wasn’t aware Disney offered educational programs like this, that’s awesome! However, I must convey my profound disappointment that locals and passholders (many of whom, I feel certain, are homeschoolers like us) seem to merit no consideration. I don’t see any mention of a passholder or Florida resident discount, nor any way to even participate in the programs at all without purchasing a separate admission. Say it ain’t so!

  • Is there a possibility that the “self-guided quest” could also be developed for Disneyland park?

    • Jacqueline – Great question! We try to follow in Walt Disney’s footsteps and “keep moving forward,” as we continue to create new offerings and enhance our educational experiences for both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.
