Disney Parks Blog Weekly Recap Mar. 4, 2012

Someone at my dinner table aboard the Disney Fantasy wrapped up the week perfectly when they said, “you’ve had some amazingly fun days at Disney Parks this week.” Why yes, we have. First, Disney Cruise Line christened the newest ship in the fleet, the Disney Fantasy, with a grand ceremony that included celebrity performances, the introduction of a world-class crew and the official announcement of the ship’s godmother, Mariah Carey. Take a look at some exclusive video from the night.

And the Disney Fantasy celebration happened just hours after our “One more Disney Day” festivities at both the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. It was the first time ever, both Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland park stayed open for 24 hours for an extra day of magic.

Erin and Jenn shared some wonderful images from the 24-hour celebration at both parks and you can see them all by visiting their original blog posts, here and here.

We also created a special splitscreen video for Disney Parks Blog readers called, “A Tale of Two Parks.” And if you didn’t notice, there was plenty more fun to share. Here are some of the other stories we worked on this week.

Time Capsule Buried at Disney California Adventure Park – Last Saturday, Walt Disney Imagineering and cast members at Disney California Adventure park buried a time capsule in Buena Vista Plaza containing items specific to the park, which won’t be opened by Disneyland Resort cast members until 2037.

Disney Fantasy Ready for New York City Christening Ceremony – On March 1, Disney Cruise Line officially christened the Disney Fantasy in New York City. Check out some photos of the new ship!

From the Drawing Board: Take a Look at the Suites Coming to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort – Animators may be the masterminds behind the theming of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, but Imagineers who designed the resort are making their own “suite” magic. Take a peek at this second in a series of videos with the inside scoop.

  • It WAS a big week. And who would have thought we would ALSO be treated to such a work of art like the SPLIT SCREEN: A TALE OF TWO PARKS! It was the most magical thing I’ve ever seen on this wonderful blog. Thank You for ALL your hard work and dedication. Keep ’em coming! My day would be incomplete without my first-thing-in-the-morning reading of your fine publication.

  • Dear Mr. Smith,

What a wonderful way to end the week and begin a new one. Reading the weekly Recap is a little reminder of all the wonderful things that we have around us for which to be grateful and all of the new beginnings allowing us all to have hope.

An eventfilled last week was a highlight for many Disney enthusiasts such as myself sending my mind in a whirlwind of future planning. Thank you.

Looking forward to more excitment in the week ahead!
