Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa – A ‘Go-To’ Favorite at Disneyland Resort

“Charred

While we can always find something delicious to eat at any Disneyland Resort restaurant, one of our favorite “go-to” spots is Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, where Chef Chris Faulkner keeps the kitchen running. We always start with a bowl of the charred Nebraska corn chowder (and sometimes that with a bowl of seasonal berries is lunch).

“Chef

Chef Chris started working at the Disneyland Resort as a teenage busboy, clearing plates at the Plaza Inn at Disneyland park in the 1990s. And it wasn’t long before he knew that a culinary career was his calling. “Even as a busboy, I loved the camaraderie in the kitchen,” says Chris.

“Storytellers

Storytellers Cafe is one of the busiest restaurants in the Disneyland Resort hotels, and Chris says he loves the challenge and enjoys working with his diverse, energetic team. The restaurant’s menu is focused on California cuisine, and one of his favorite jobs is sourcing sustainable fish and seasonal fruits and vegetables.

“With local, seasonal produce, the price is lower, it’s the freshest and most flavorful,” he explains. And while there’s a little something for everyone on the generous breakfast and dinner buffets, you’ll always find seasonal fruits and veggies. And with the a la carte dinner menu, Chris says he has more latitude to create delicious seasonal dishes, such as zucchini blossoms in the spring and heirloom tomatoes in the summertime. Right now, it’s lemon prawns tossed with a low-fat citrus sauce, tomatoes and veggies served with orzo.

  • Chef Chris is FANTASTIC! We just dined there last week during our first visit to Disneyland. Chris did a tremendous job accommodating my daughter’s many food allergies by making her a delicious meal. We were impressed by all of the food at Storyteller’s, but most impressed by his attentiveness and creativity. We will definitely dine there again on our next trip to Disneyland!

  • Imagine having to pick up and read every package of every item you put in your mouth. That’s what having a gluten allergy is like. It makes eating at a restaurant challenging, if not impossible. Now imagine going on vacation and NOT having to worry about it. At all. Chef Chris became our go-to chef for our vacation last spring break. We ate 3 meals in 2 days at Storytellers Cafe. Our vacation TRULY was a vacation in every sense with Chris looking after us.
    Thanks again, Chris.

  • We LOVE the corn chowder and the buffet is always a great taste adventure! Also, an appetizer or two in the lounge at the Napa Rose makes us very happy!

  • Don’t ever miss a chance to visit Chef Chris!
Everything about Storyteller’s make me happy- I always feel welcome and pampered, and then comes the amazing food. My only problem is that I can’t eat enough! So I just keep coming back. Big thanks for all the fun to Chef Chris and all the Storytellers staff.

  • Ditto on the huge thanks to Chris. My wife had a very restrictive diet, and Chris came to our table, asked about it, and then made an amazing meal just for her. He even made gluten-free bread taste great! Chris is awesome. Give him a raise! 🙂
