In March, as the refurbishments on Main Street, U.S.A., were underway at Disneyland park, we took you behind the scenes in the Disneyland Arcade Shop for a look inside – literally, inside – the Welte Orchestrion. This impressive instrument has called the Main Street Penny Arcade home for decades. As you may recall from the original post, Disneyland Electromechanical team members Dave Allan, Ken Knibb, Joel Viado and Jeff Garcia were working to restore the Welte as close as possible to its original condition and counting down the days to its return to the Penny Arcade upon the location’s April reopening.

Well, I’m happy to report that the Welte Orchestrion is back in its place in the Main Street Penny Arcade, entertaining Disneyland park guests once again with its classic tunes. Take a look in this video from my fellow Disney Parks Blog author, Shannon Swanson!

  • The organ is definitely one of the semi-hidden gems of Disneyland! Also, for those who don’t know, there’s also a drum machine in the Disneyland Railroad’s Main Street Station that still plays—REALLY loud—for just 10 cents. Another must-hear!

  • Is there one of these in the Magic Kingdom? I Googled that it was at the Diamond Horseshoe.

  • It’s quite a shame you can’t select the song it plays anymore, and that it’s covered by popcorn… It truly is a gem!

  • I was a little disappointed that the penny & quarter smashers were gone when the Penny Arcade reopened. Are there any plans to bring them back?

  • When I visited a couple weeks ago it didn’t appear that you could select what music played. There used to be a coin operated way to choose the next song… Will this option be coming back? I was disappointed that the organ was no longer an interactive feature. 🙁

  • Erin, I love the remodel, and have you ever seen so many registers to make checking out quick. LOVE IT! One question, Please tell me the Green Glass Elephant in the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Shoppe is safe and sound and will make a reappearance in the park some day.

  • At first, I was a little disappointed that you can no longer select what music it plays. But in the long-run, its no big deal. It plays music on its own every few minutes. The important thing is that is that it was refurbished, and looks (and sounds) great!
