A few months ago, we launched our new D-Tech Me experience as part of Star Wars Weekends 2012. You may remember how guests were “frozen” in carbonite at the Carbon-Freezing Chamber in Disney’s Hollywood Studios using state-of-the-art imaging and printing technology. I’m excited to share that D-Tech Me is expanding starting August 26 at the World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace. This new interactive experience will allow guests ages 3-12 to live out princess dreams by placing their likeness on a three-dimensional 7-inch Disney Princess figurine keepsake!
During this 10-minute experience, several cameras will instantly capture multiple angles of a guest’s face which are reconstructed in a computer for processing. The “princess in waiting” can choose one of seven different Disney Princesses including Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White and Tiana. Hair, skin and eye color of the figurine are customized to match the guest. A Princess silver link necklace with choice of colored gem charm is also included for participants.
The completed figurine is then shipped directly to the guest’s home within five to six weeks.
Each seven-inch Princess figurine is $99.95 (plus $15.95 shipping. Canadian and International shipping begins at $75.00). Guests can order additional replica seven-inch figurines for $74.95 each or a three-inch replica for $39.95. No discounts will be offered.
Reservations are strongly recommended for this limited time experience and can be made by calling 407-WDW-TECH (407-939-8324) starting August 7, 2012.
Please note: Guests must be between 3-12 years of age to participate. Children must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age or older during the entire experience. A valid accepted credit card number is required at time of booking. No-shows or in the event a reservation is cancelled within 48 hours of scheduled experience will result in such credit card being charged a $25 cancellation fee. The experience, due to its personalized nature is non-refundable and not eligible for an exchange. Certain restrictions apply. All prices, components and information are subject to change or cancellation without notice.

Just booked this for our 6 year old princess on thanksgiving night!! Wishing our 2 year old could experience also and would even love to do this myself. Hoping it will become a permanent experience at both wdw and dl!
Who do we write or call to make this permanent?
This is great for the younger kids, as my five-year-old daughter would love to do it if we were going to be there during the planned event. I’m hoping it will be a big success and will be offered again. On the age restriction–which I also hope is raised so older princesses can enjoy–how ironic that if the actual Disney Princesses wanted to do this themselves, they would be too old!
Honestly, this is something that should be offered all of the time and to all ages, I know my wife would love this!
We did the carbon freeze me for SWW, and saw this. We are going to be up there this weekend, so I just booked it for my daughter, she’s going to ecstatic.
I’m a grown-up Princess and would love to be able to do this. I’m not sure why there are age restrictions on any of these experiences. I loved getting done up at the Pirates League and I’m 32!
I am very excited about this very special gift we will be getting for our 6 year old but………..we also have a daughter that will be 2 years and 9 months old while we are in Disney (for our 1st trip even) and we can’t get one of these for her. : ( Hopefully we will be able to find a special keepsake for her, too.
I agree with the people who would like it for older people that still feel like princesses. I am almost 44 and I would love to have that done for myself. My husband and I go for character pictures, character breakfasts including Cinderella’s Royal Table, most everything the younger people do and enjoy it. I would absolutely love and be ecstatic if I would be able to do something like that.
Thank you Erin! I was able to book it for November 24th! So excited! The cast member even said “have a magical night!” :0)
Just wondering if this experience will end Thanksgiving weekend or last another couple of weeks? We will be there December 10-15th….just wondering!
@Kristy – At this point, there are not plans to have the experience running in December. Sorry.
Frankly, I would do this AND the BBBoutique, but I’m 30. Alas.
I LOVE this! I just tried to book this for November 24th and they said that they are only offering this up to November 20th! Ugh! So close! I am hoping they will expand this for a least one more week! I too wish that the age limit would be expanded for all ages!
@Cindy – I’m sorry for the confusion. I spoke with the reservation team who invited you to call back as they should be able to accomodate you on November 24. The experience is currently planned to run through that day.
I am a Princess! No age limit. 🙂 <3 <3 <3
Hi Erin,
I didn’t know that BBB had an age limit of 12. That is too bad, my daughter is turning 13 this November and would love to have had this figurine and still be able to have her hair done at BBB. I think Disney should really not have age restrictions or at least raise the age limit. There is so much garbarge and adult stuff pushed on our kids at a young age. Disney Princess is classy and has a wholesome quality, why not let our girls be girls longer as they should be. Maybe Disney can up the age, I am sure there are many others out there who feel the same way.
Thanks, We love everything Disney Princess!
I just booked an appointment for Sept. 29th for my 6 year old. We are there celebrating her 6th birthday and she will be beyond excited to be made into one of her favorite Disney princesses…I know that I sure am! When I first called the recording said the wait time was more than 30 minutes, but the cast member picked up in less than 15 and was SO very helpful. I am so looking forward to adding this new experience to our annual Disney trip. It’s going to be a great keepsake!
Okay, so we have already been this year and our next trip is planned for next June. Will the D Tech Me be available then? I am heartbroken!
@Tina – Currently, we don’t have plans to offer the experience beyond this late fall 2012. After this experience has concluded, we may look at offereing it again. Sorry that I don’t have better news right now.
Why only 7 of the 10 Disney Princesses? My daughter loves Mulan and I would’ve really loved to get this for her, but without Mulan she doesn’t want it. She’s really dissapoited that she doesn’t get to be her favorite princess.
@Tina – Since this is a new offering, we decided to only focus on the seven Princesses currently offered. We may consider additional offerings in the future but it’s a little too early to tell.
The Carbon Freeze me was offered for both children and adults. Why make the exclusions for this? Same thing with the BBB, why the age restrictions?
@Tracie – Sorry for your disappointment. This experience is something new we are trying. We decided for this limited time offer to match the age limit also found at the Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boutique. Please know that I will share your thoughts with the team as it will help us in the future.
Booked an appointment today for my 6 year old for our trip next month!! We will have the D-Tech experience followed by her BBB transformation!! It will be a princess filled day 🙂 Thanks for the information. We would never have known about this!
@Jennifer – How wonderful! I hope your daughter has a great time. Have a safe trip.
Add me to the list of adult (kid at heart) princesses that would enjoy this experience. While at WDW for Star Wars Weekend we almost did the Carbon Freeze experience but with four Star Wars fans in the house it was going to be a bit pricey. But since I’m the only princess in the house this would be great!
We are going to be there in October and would so love to book this for my daughter. Is the only way to book to call, or is there an email address?
@Kimberly – We recently offered the Carbon-Freeze Me experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios which ended in mid-June. There currently isn’t anything planned as this D-Tech Me Princess experience is something new we are trying.
@Tania – Unfortunately there isn’t an email address offered for reservations. You would need to call 407-WDW-TECH (407-939-8324) to inquire about availability.
Is there anything for boys? My son would love to do something like this but obviously not princess.
I know many have already said this, but I wish there wasn’t an age restriction on this. I will be at Disney World in Sep. and would definitely have had one made! I do think it’s important for Disney to remember that “big” kids love the same magic and magical moments as children, (sometimes probably more).
we got to test this product when we were at BBB last October. My daughter is squinting a bit on her statue but it has her face. I think we got it in about 6 weeks. And you can tell it’s her. It’s porcelain with a sandy feel to it. It has some weight to it. From what We chose her favorite Cindrella. This is a must have! Disney is truly amazing at the new things they come up with.
@Christine – That’s great! I’m glad your daughter got to experience it. Thanks for sharing your comment.
I’m curious to know what the statues are made of. They are not specific. Thanks.
@Kevin P. – Each D-Tech Me Princess figurine is crafted from the highest resolution 3D printer. It has the feel of a resin-like powder material.
I”m just chiming in with others above. I did the carbonate experience at Star Wars weekend and it was supercool. i have a sister who is a HUGE Snow White Fan and it seems sad and strange she can’t do this….
Will they ever do anything like this in California? All the cool stuff like this happens in Florida 🙁
@David – Sorry to hear of your disappointment. We like to try a variety of things on each coast. A great recent example for Disneyland Resort would be the Glow With the Show ears which are only found at Disney California Adventure I would say those are pretty cool :-). We test offerings, make adjustments and then decide if they can be expanded.
This states its for a limited time experience…when is it available until?
I’m saddened too as many others commented about the age restriction. I am an avid Ariel fan and would have jumped at the chance for this experience, but like many others, don’t meet the age requirements.
Is there any chance they’ll bring the carbonite figuring back? My husband was really bummed when it was only available for such a short time.
@Rebekah – My fellow author Steven just shared that the Carbon-Freeze Me experience will return for a four-day limited engagement at a Star Wars fan event called Celebration VI. It will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in August 2012. That is the only place that I know of right now that it will appear. See the article here – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/08/disney-parks-merchandise-to-attend-star-wars-celebration-vi-event-in-august-2012/
Full disclosure – I’m a travel agent. And I know a number of clients who kids at heart (but not of age) who are serious princess fans and would love to experience this for themselves!
My two girls did the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique last October and were chosen to be part of the test market for this product. It is absolutely fabulous and well worth it. Luckily at that time there wasn’t an age limit for BBB because my older daughter was 15. They are true to what the girls really look like. Try to work it into your budget.
@Renee – I’m happy to hear you got to experience the test run for the D-Tech Me Princess experience last October. Sounds like your children and you had a great time. 🙂
You said limited time, how limited?? We won’t be there until November 2nd but it would such a great idea for my two little princesses. Now if only they could it expand it to Villains…this grown up would love to morphed into the Evil Queen (maniacal laughter)
@Claire – You should be able to participate on or around November 2. We are looking to run the experience at least through Thanksgiving.
Is this only be offered starting August 26 at the World of Disney in Downtown Disney Marketplace? Or is this already being offered at one of the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks?
@Cynthia – At this point, this experience will only be offered at the World of Disney at the Downtown Disney Marketplace. The reservation line for the experience officially opened yesterday, August 7 – 407-WDW-TECH (407-939-8324).
I had no idea there was an age restriction for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. They didn’t mention it while they did my hair and makeup and made me feel like a princess!! And I am a grown woman (well, at least I appear to be one, still a kid at heart!)
Like sais above, too bad there’s an age limit. I would love to this on my next trip.
Love this idea, my girls would love it. Would love to do it too, but I don’t think I can pass for twelve. They should open this to all ages!!!
@Cesilie – I feel that way too some days 🙂 As this is a new experience, we wanted to match the current age limit for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Please know your feedback is helpful and I will share it with the team.
awesome idea, but why the age limit? I’m a 22 year old woman… but I’m really a 5 yr old princess at heart!!
I will definitely do this for my two girls. I’ll budget it into the trip! What an awesome keepsake!
Just booked this for my soon to be 9 year old, she is going to LOVE IT!!!!
Agree! This should be a princesses of all ages activity!
My daughter would love to do this but she is too old. Why the age restriction?
That is so cool! I wish there was not an age limit…older princesses would be interested in this, too!
This looks great! Is there any reason for the age restriction? This really seems like something princesses of all ages should be able to enjoy, especially since there was no such restriction on the Carbon Freeze Me Experience for Star Wars Weekends. Thanks for the great post, Erin!
@Nicole – I’m glad you liked the article! The age limit for this experience matches the current age limit for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience also found at the World of Disney. Thank you for the feedback, and I will share it with the team.
