Eight Ways to Enjoy Disney California Adventure Park: Child’s Play

If you want to explore all the new fun and attractions at Disney California Adventure park, plus see the nighttime spectaculars, plus enjoy the many great shows, plus visit your favorite places at Disneyland park, you’re going to need a few days to do everything.

When moms and dads try to cram too much into one day, they often end up with someone in the family turning into a version Grumpy. To avoid that famous dwarf’s demeanor, try slowing down a bit and seeing Disney California Adventure park from a child’s point of view. The attractions and shows designed for wee ones often put a smile on the face of parents and grandparents, too.

Today’s suggested itinerary invites you to enjoy the experiences that are fun for all ages, whether it’s floating on air in a giant tire, shrinking to the size of a bug or learning to draw a Disney character with a Disney sketch artist.

*Be sure to take this character sketching class, offered throughout the day at Disney Animation in Hollywood Land. While you’re there, don’t miss the Toy Story Zoetrope – a unique, interactive tribute to the art of animation.

If you enjoyed this day’s itinerary and then had a second day at Disney California Adventure park, what would you do?

  • I wish I had known that we would only be able to go into the parks for 5 days instead of the 8 days we had originally planned when I booked our holiday in March. Now we will be in the resort for 12 days and only able to get a five day pass.Soooo sad…..

  • I took my family this last July and spent 3 days between the 2 parks. Our kids had a lot of fun, but we were not able to get everything in. We are planning another trip July 2013 and are planning on spending 6 days!! The kids will be so surprised!

  • For the second day: Radiator Springs Racers, World of Color, and Tower of Terror for sure!!! (though perhaps the Tower of Terror should only be for the bigger kids….)

  • We do like to slow down with our 3 year old and weren’t able to do everything on that list with a 6 day hopper. We were so sad when we tried to add a day to see the Pixar play parade (only at 2 on that day-not showing at 5) and we were told we couldn’t. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want guests to spend longer in the park.

  • We were so excited to take our 8 kids to Disneyland and last time we were there in 2010 we spent 7 days in the park and we decided we wanted to spend 10 days this time because it just wasn’t enough time last time and now there was more to see and we were excited to see all the holiday lights and decorations. We have our hotel, DVC stay and airfare and now we see the longest ticket you can buy is for 5 days. We were able to upgrade our Citypass tickets in 2010 to 7 day tickets but I’ve heard that is no longer an option to upgrade past 5 days. We weren’t planning another Disneyland trip, we were hoping to visit Disneyworld next year so to upgrade to an annual pass didn’t make sense. Plus it’s another $2000 to upgrade since the ticket prices went up. Had I known I wouldn’t be able to get an 8 day ticket I would’ve bought our annual passes before the $100 price increase. I hope they change the policy before December and take into account those who like to make one long visit because it costs alot to get there.

  • Please bring back the ability to upgrade your Park Hopper passes to 8 days!

  • We spent 7 days at Disneyland in June which included the grand opening of Carsland. Everything that has been added to the park is terrific! But now we have to speed up more than slow down because Disneyland has stopped selling anything more than 5 day tickets. In losing the discount of increased days we shall just pack in what we can and then head off to check out other S. Cal attractions.

  • You are correct, you do need a few days to see everything, try at least 7 or 8. Which is perfect for not over taxing anyone. Too bad you only offer 5 day park hopper tickets.

  • We have never spent less than 10 days visiting the Disneyland Resort. We have often stayed 2 weeks or more because there is just so much to see and do, even just all the rides take days to get on, and to see all the shows and parades, eat at all the awesome food locations, spend time at the amazing new pools at the Disneyland Hotel, yes a full week is the minimum you need at the Resort. We just came back from a full 2 weeks there, and we still missed some things! Sadly, there is no longer a park hopper ticket available for more than 5 days. They used to be available up to 8 days. I am happy we are able to afford annual passes, but for so many families they are now limited to just 5 days to see and do everything in both parks. I would love to know the reason this was done. It seems funny to do a blog about staying several days to see and do everything, yet not offering the ticket to do it.

  • Sticking with the theme of Child’s Play I would have to include Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, Goofy’s Sky School, Toy Story Mania! (again), lunch at Ariel’s Grotto, Silly Symphony Swings, Soarin’ Over California, head back to Carsland for Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, a snack from the Cozy Cones and ending the day with World of Color!

Now granted I’ve never been but this is what I imagine a great day with little ones would be like at CA Adventure. Going for the first time in a couple of weeks! 🙂
