Disney California Adventure Park Named ‘Park of the Year’ by Amusement Today

Disney California Adventure park has been selected “2012 Park of the Year” by Amusement Today, a publication that covers amusement park news and trends. The publication’s Golden Ticket Awards, recently held at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., honors the “best of the best” in the amusement industry.

Gary Slade, publisher and editor-in-chief, personally selected Disney California Adventure park for the Publisher’s Pick Award after visiting this summer. He saluted cast members and Imagineers “for showing the imagination and creativity needed to make [Disney California Adventure park] the must-visit facility of the year.”

Accepting the award on behalf of Disneyland Resort cast members, and Imagineers, was Mary Niven, vice president of Disney California Adventure park and Guest Services, and Kathy Mangum, Walt Disney Imagineering executive producer.

Mary said, “I was truly honored to accept the ‘Park of the Year’ award on behalf of every cast member who is, and was, a part of the making of the new Disney California Adventure park. Without their hard work and dedication, this award and the joy that you see on our guests’ faces would not be possible.”

What’s your favorite part of Disney California Adventure park that makes it the “must-visit facility of the year?”

  • Buena Vista Street is the highlight. I wish it was more than just stores and generic merch, but it was so amazing it’s first three months. Love the Red Cars more than anything!

  • Excellent news! Can’t wait to visit…

  • Congrats on getting Theme Park of the Year! I have 2 favorite parts of the park: Cars land and World of Color!

  • congrats to everyone! ya’ll truly deserve this title! i love everything about disneyland california!!

  • Congratulations to everyone who contributed to improving DCA! It’s an honor well deserved. Buena Vista Street and Cars Land are wonderful additions. I especially love the fun Citizens of BVS and the street shows. Please keep them around!

  • Know what has never won? Hollywood Studios or Epcot.
    Just saying…
    Hintity hint hint?

  • Buena Vista Street is STILL amazing, and its got some unique merchandise, like the Oswald plush toys and conductor Mickey plush.

Cars Land and Buena Vista Street really help to put Disney California Adventure over the top.

Plus, all of the other improvements and additions that were made since 2008 are awesome as well!

  • Congratulations! I look forward to a future visit to DCA to see all the new attractions!

  • I love and respect the fact that Disney can look at a situation, find its flaws, and take the great steps to improve the environment. When DCL opened over a decade ago, it was…well, not up to Disney standard. A decade later it wins this wonderful reward! This truly goes to show the dedication of Disney and the humility it takes to make correction, to do things not just right, but best!

  • WOOO! YAY! DCA really deserves it! ever since the reopening I can’t seem to leave Buena Vista Street it’s so gorgeous I could just sit on the benches and look at everything and never get bored. The new DCA is beautiful especially Carthay Circle Fountain. The Red Car News Boys are my favorite! i love them <3 5 and Dime is great as well!
    Congrats DCA I love you!

  • Hate to admit it but we actually enjoyed Disneyland and the California Adventure more then we ever expected. Earlier this month my son convinced me to accompany him to witness his two Disneyland marathons. My wife and I resisted flying west as we live virtually next to Disney’s AK here in West Kissimmee. We too believed our west coast cousins probably had two boring parks compared to what we have here. Was I wrong! I came back inspired to write report and cc it to a few high ranking Disney World execs.Ones I encounter through work. Both California parks were inspirational but the California Adventure literally motivated me the most.Great park, great management and landscaping we can learn from.I loved how within 100 feet you can go from one world to another with no sense of being crowded. Best of all you could literally live within walking distance of Disneyland and tell all your firends you have the best back yard on the planet….

  • Congratulations! If ever there was a year to win it, it would be this one. It’s been a pleasure watching this park grow into one of the most amazing Disney parks in the world. And, I ditto Katie about never being able to leave Buena Vista Street. I can walk up and down it, shop or just sit and enjoy watching shows or people watching all day long there. Fabulously designed! Congrats again! An award well deserved!

  • My time with my daughter this year was reduced my circumstances from a month to a weekend. I wanted it memorable, so I took her to DCA. Best weekend of our lives. Disney made it magical for both of us – a time we will never, ever forget. And the entire resort was incredible, not just DCA – but DCA was definitely the hot fudge sundae with the cherry on top of the resort now.

  • Well deserved! It’s been awesome to see how the park has changed in the last few years, with the culmination of the openings of Carsland and Buena Vista Street. Congratulations!!
