Halloween Carnival Takes Over Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree at Disneyland Park

There’s something new this Halloween Time at Disneyland park, and it’s happening over at the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree in Frontierland. That’s where you’ll find a magical Halloween Carnival filled with fun for the whole family, with favorite Disney characters in Halloween costumes, special Halloween entertainment, amazing pumpkin carvers, activities, holiday merchandise, yummy treats and even the Disney Villains!

You can make your own Halloween mask at the craft station, and then join Mickey Mouse and his pals in a “Mask-Parade.” Try your hand at carnival games, like tossing rings on a witch’s hat or spinning the Crystal Ball Fortune Wheel to seek your own happy Halloween fortune. Everyone’s favorite Frontierland musical group joins the fun, too, as Billy Hill and the “Haunted” Hillbillies take the stage six times a day for a round of appropriately spooky tunes, all done in their inimitable bluegrass style.

The highlight of the Halloween Carnival is sure to be the Magic Cauldron Sideshow. Dare to venture into this tented area, and you may be asked to help cast a magic spell, conjuring a Disney Villain from his or her realm to meet your group before returning to worlds beyond. Disney Villains fans will want to visit more than once, since you never know which Disney Villain might be summoned each time. Sounds like a real “scream!”

The Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree opens September 14 and continues most days through October 31. Please check the park Times Guide for daily operating schedules.

  • I saw Jafar on the afternoon of the 17th!

  • @Matthew – it appears that Cruella, Hook, and the Queen are the villains appearing this year – all ones who appear during the entire year. It is very disappointing to see that what was once an opportunity to see rare villains has turned into this. Having to wait through the line several times to see no one special was a major dissatisfier this past weekend. I hope they work to improve this offering soon.

  • Yes, we too bought our party tickets and are waiting to see if there will be discounted hopper tickets like other years 🙂

  • My so really wants to go to disneyland for Halloween, I have bought the party tickets, do you know if there are going to be any discounts for the hopper tickets? I would like him to be able to have a couple of days at disneyland also.

  • Will boo there on the 14th with my little goblin grandkids for a spook-tacular time!

  • I can’t wait to be there. I will be there opening day. Is there any extra cost????

    • Eva – Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree is included with regular daytime admission to Disneyland Park. Have a great time!

  • Very excited to see this next month! I like this time of year at Disneyland even better than Christmas time.

  • Can you tell us which villains might be appearing this year… hopefully some new/rare ones!

    • Matthew – You’ll just have to venture into the Magic Cauldron Sideshow to find out!

  • Will this also be going on during the Halloween Party in the evening?

    • I have an update for you, Yvonne! I’ve learned that the Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree will only be offered during regular daytime operating hours at Disneyland Park, not during Mickey’s Halloween Party events. On party nights, there will be different Halloween activities throughout the park and other places to meet the Disney Villains.

  • Will this eliminate the Big Thunder Ranch BBQ for it’s duration?

    • Ryan – Halloween Carnival will take place in the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree area, located behind the BBQ restaurant and the ranch itself.

  • Wow! this sounds so exciting, and absolutely wonderful! For a villain fan myself, this sounds like a great new experience! But I must ask, will this be the new area for the Villains Meet and Greet? I do enjoy my villains, and hope they aren’t going to be limited 🙂

    • Christine and Courtney – Yes, the Halloween Carnival will be the place to find the Disney Villains during Halloween Time this year. Of course, on evenings when Mickey’s Halloween Party is offered, you may also find them elsewhere in the park. Check the schedule when you come, and have fun!

  • So, is this going to be the new area to meet with the villains as opposed to that area over by Small World? I know my friends and I are going to absolutely love the Magic Cauldron Sideshow. We’ll be hoping to conjure up Judge Claude Frollo. 😉

This sounds so exciting with so much going on. Halloween is the best season ever at Disneyland!

  • That’s really kewl! This is the first year that I’m going to DL for Halloween and also experincing MNSSHP also! Can’t wait to check it out!

  • is this only happening at night? or is this all day?

    • Samantha – Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree is included in regular daytime admission to Disneyland Park. It opens next Friday, Sept. 14, and is scheduled to be available most days through Oct. 31. Operating hours may vary, though, so please check the park Times Guide.

  • I too would like to see something like this in Walt Disney World. Any chance of that happening?

    • Lauren – This idea was conjured up specifically for Disneyland, to provide a new place for the Disney Villains to appear during Halloween Time, due to other activity happening in the park.

  • That sounds like fun. I will definitely stop by and check it out.

  • Is anything like this going to be offered at Walt Disney World?

    • Meaghan – Walt Disney World doesn’t offer this exact experience, but they have lots of cool things to see and do during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom, including the Villains Mix & Mingle at Cinderella Castle and an appearance by the Headless Horseman just prior to Mickey’s Boo To You Parade.

  • Sounds really cool!

Its always great to see new things being added.

  • Please let us know if the 30% discount fall offer will be coming soon – we look forward to the halloween time every year but this year the specials haven’t been announced yet and it’s getting awfully late…..

  • Love Halloween Time. Sounds like fun! Loving the expanding of Halloween things.

  • I really wish they’d do this in Disney World too!
