Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative center behind Disney’s theme parks, resorts, cruise ships and our other family entertainment experiences, turned 60 this week. Originally established to conceive, plan and build Disneyland, Walt’s “backyard laboratory” now comprises 1,400 Imagineers who carry on a great legacy and commitment to bringing our iconic stories and characters to life in ways that constantly surprise and delight our guests. It’s incredible to think that what began as a small team in a few buildings in Burbank was the genesis of all of our travel and leisure businesses across the globe.
Whether it is the launch of the Disney Fantasy cruise ship, the unveiling of New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park or the reopening of Disney California Adventure park with Cars Land and Buena Vista Street, it is quite clear that the imaginative spirit of Disney Parks is as strong as ever. With new experiences planned at all of our destinations, including Shanghai Disney Resort, our Imagineers continue to be a cornerstone for creativity and innovation across all of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
And 60 years later, we feel like we’re just getting started. Please join all of us at Disney Parks in celebrating 60 incredible years of dreaming and delivering the most magical and memorable experiences in the world.

This video is AMAZING! Please imagineers keep up the amazing work you do!You make Disney Parks a home away from home for so many people. As a frequent visitor of WDW,about twice a year, I always see and discover something new even if it’s the 100th time riding a ride. And as for the little girl in the beginning of the video, she made me tear up reminding me of myself a few months back when my mom agreed to go to Disneyland with me. It has been my lifelong dream to go to Disneyland and I was joking with my mom when I said “let’s skip our annual WDW Christmas light trip and go to Disneyland for a long weekend” when she said yes I cried in the middle of the store I was so excited and the trip was all I had ever dreamed of!!!!
Fantastic video, I just wish they included all of the Imagineers. I know there are a lot of them but it would be cool to see familiar faces like those we had lunch with during the Imagineering Lunches over the years.
I am very thankful that Walt was so imaginative to create such a fun place for kids and big kids alike to play and escape and that Imagineers helped make it all happen and carry out his wishes and dreams.
A great tribute, to a magical band of people. Thanks to all of them for the great memories they create and also thanks to the senior Disney management team that are now allowing them the opportunities to produce Walt,s dreams! Happy 60th WDI!
Happy 60th Anniversary WED-WDI Imagineering. Walt’s words remind me of why it is so important to have those employee Christmas parties at Disneyland to share with your families and to show them what you have been doing during your infield service and long hours away from them. Please keep those Special moments going Imagineering.
As a former Disneyland Cast Member (1968-1970), long-time Passholder, and a 60-year old who is planning a week-long stay at WDW to celebrate our 40th Anniversary (and my wife’s 60th Birthday), all I can say is….. “KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK!”
Our entire family has the “Disney” bug ….. our children delight in bringing their children to join Grandpa and Grandma in the Happiest Place on Earth, and our homes reflect the Disney Spirit of Fun and Adventure. Our thanks to Walt, Marty, John, Kim, Tony and everyone at IMAGINEERING for keeping us young!
Happy 60th!!!
Beautiful video, and thank you so much to all of the Imagineers who have helped create the happiest places on Earth! My dream job has always been to be a Disney Imagineer, and I hope that some day I can help contribute to the joy that Disney Parks brings.
Amazing. I hope to be a part of this story one day.
Fifth degree black belt from Maryland here! Tears streaming down my face watching that little girl being surprised…WOW. I’ve watched it six times and it literally touches my soul. I love you Disney!
Beautiful tribute. Happy anniversary and here’s to many, many more years of brilliant creativity, innovation, and imagination.
Happy Anniversary WDI!
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future. (I’m really looking forward to the Parks and Resorts presentation at the D23 Expo next year.) 🙂
I’m a 45 year old man, crying over this video. That little girl at the beginning is priceless.
Simply beautiful. The clip of the little girl crying with happiness at the beginning when her parents surprised her with a trip to the park? Wow. My eyes teared up. This is why my lifelong dream that always lays in the back of my head to be part of the Imagineering team. I can’t express how much I want to be a part of creating these new worlds for the Guests, how much I want to be a part of creating these cherished memories for every person that walks through those gates. Thank you to all members of WDI for all the joy and inspiration that you’ve brought me and millions of others through these sixty years. And thank you Uncle Walt, for starting it all.
