  • Yen Sid is actually one word. Yensid.

    • Jon – According to “Disney A to Z” by Disney Legend and Archives founder Dave Smith, the name of the sorcerer character from Fantasia is actually Yen Sid (two words). It’s that same character who will make an appearance in this show. Many know it as the name “Disney” spelled backward, and in fact, when Walt Disney was given a story credit on the film “Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N,” his name appeared as Retlaw Yensid (one word).

  • please tell me this has Oswald in it too, this sounds so much like the concept of Epic Mickey

    • Tyler – I can see where you might find correlations to Epic Mickey, but the story of “Mickey and the Magical Map” is really quite different. Although we’re not ready to reveal all the places Mickey will go and all the characters he’ll meet on his journey, I can tell you Oswald the Lucky Rabbit will not be one of them.

  • Wow I have been waiting to hear what is coming to the fantasyland theater. This sounds really neat. Can not wait for more information we will be going in May . . . is that summer?

    • Brook – I don’t know when in May you’re planning to visit, but the show probably won’t be ready until late May or early June. You’ll definitely get to see the new Fantasy Faire, though!

  • yay i cant wait thank you for bringing the theater back is it the same stage that dick tracy played there. is it the same outdoor theater or is indoor theater now

    • Brett – You got it! In the early ’90s, when the theater was known as Videopolis, it played host to “Dick Tracy Starring in Diamond Double Cross.” Many other shows have also played there over the years. Fantasyland Theatre is still an open-air venue, but it’s covered with a large, tent-like structure over the audience.

  • Sounds fantastic and a great branch of the Fantasmic & Epic Mickey tree.

  • Very cool!

I’m looking forward to seeing this. It will be great to have the theater back to having a show.

    • Fred – I agree. It’s a Win-Win this year with the openings of both Fantasy Faire and “Mickey and the Magical Map!”

  • Interesting… It’s one word on the new Fantasia vinylmation set. Guess everyone should fact check like you do! 🙂

  • Although it sounds like a great concept for the show and no doubt I am very much looking forward to this show, I had heard from some insiders that they weren’t going to do a revue type show but rather something similar to Aladdin or the old Snow White show that use to be there. Either way, I’m very happy they’ve returned the venue into a theatre.

    • Thomas – I guess it just goes to show… Disney Parks Blog is your best source of information for what’s coming to the parks. 😉 We’ll have even more to share soon…

  • The concept art looks fantastic! It reminds me of the caliber of show you would see onboard the Disney Cruise Line. Now if I can just find a way to live closer to Disneyland instead of WDW, so I can see it!! I thought the same as Tyler too, Epic Mickey. Too bad Oswald won’t be in it.

    • Alison – Aren’t the shows on Disney Cruise Line fantastic?! At least Disneyland is just a plane ride away!

  • Wonderful. I can’t wait to see this. We’ll be coming in June so it looks like we should get to. I’ve missed the Fantasyland Theater shows since Snow White ended its run. The concept art looks amazing and the story sounds intriguing. Excited to see where the story takes us. Thanks for the news and look forward to seeing it.

    • Adam – We love catching “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” at Disney California Adventure, and it’ll be great to have a great, theatrical show like that over at Disneyland, too.

  • It looks awesome! I hope it is open by the time we go in mid April!

    • Mary – The show opens this summer, so it unfortunately will not be ready for your April visit. The new Fantasy Faire will be open by then, and “Mickey and the Magical Map” will give you another reason to return in the future!

  • I’m confused, where is the theater in Fantasyland located?

    • John – At Disneyland Park, Fantasyland Theatre is a large outdoor venue located at the back of Fantasyland, to the west of “it’s a small world” near the entrance to Mickey’s Toontown. It was most recently home to Princess Fantasy Faire.

  • Any chance there will be a soft opening say….Memorial Day Week? That is when we will be there. Would love to see this!

    • Jeanette – We’re still a bit far out to pinpoint an exact opening date for the show, so keep checking here on the Disney Parks Blog.

  • John–
The Fantasyland theater is located next to Toontown.

  • Speaking of Oswald, please bring him to the parks for meet-and-greets soon. He’s been rumored to come out to the parks for years and hope that this year will mark his official Disney Parks debut.

And while you’re at it, have Oswald’s girlfriend Ortensia come to the parks as well.

  • This is in Anaheim, Ca?

    • Kathy – Yes. This is for the original Disneyland Park in Anaheim.

  • So excited that the theater will have shows again. I remember the Snow White show so well. So excited to see the new princesses’ home too– love the creativity.

  • AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagineering has once again given me– a Walt Disney World passholder– more reason to visit Disneyland, U.S.A!! I LOVE how you are always ADDING to Disneyland, not replacing, and am SUPER EXCITED for the day when I can finally visit the place where everything started, as well as see what is sure to be a SPECTACULAR show!!!

  • Super excited, can’t wait for this.

  • Shawn–
That’s true 🙂 Last year, Disney California Adventure was the main focus and with the very awesome Cars Land and Buena Vista Street, and its good to know that in 2013 the original Disneyland will get some new additions as well.

  • …and thanks for the response. 🙂
