Today back in 1996, The Walt Disney Company acquired a Bahamian Island named Gorda Cay. For all you fans of Disney Cruise Line, you know it better as Castaway Cay. Here’s a look at the island soon after the acquisition.

Castaway Cay stretches 3.1 miles long by 2.2 miles wide, and less than five percent of the island’s 1,000 acres have been developed.

Located 225 nautical miles from Port Canaveral, Castaway Cay continues to be the most magical island in the Bahamas.

  • We love it! We have been 5 times and on one trip we couldn’t dock due to bad weather:( We were lucky enough to go on the double dip in 2011 on the Dream. Our next trip is scheduled for June 2014 and can’t wait!

  • Care to share any of the interesting stories about the previous owners? Those always seem to pick neat spots

  • One of our favorite places on the planet.

  • A Disney Cruise is on my Bucket List – would love to be able to do one!

  • Was just there last week and already miss it so much. Definitely heaven on earth with a BBQ!

  • It’s one of my favorite places:)

    • Mine too! 🙂

  • Our family took a Disney Cruise back in January. Our favorite stop, CASTAWAY CAY!! It is defiantly heaven on earth. Our next cruise we plan we want two days at Castaway Cay. We loved it so much!! It was so Disney Heaven.

  • Thought it was called Gorda Cay?

    • Yes, it is.
