Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new official Disney Princess!

Merida Coronated as the Eleventh Disney Princess at Magic Kingdom Park

Merida, the heroine from the Disney●Pixar film, “Brave,” was officially welcomed into Disney royalty earlier today in a ceremony held at Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.

Presiding over the ceremony was Gymnastics gold medalist Gabby Douglas, and of course, our Disney Princesses: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel, were in attendance.

Check out the video below to see the royal ceremony for yourself!

  • I loved this! Yet another reason why Disney is so amazing and magical.

  • I’m glad she’s an official princess. She is a great example of what a “brave” girl is.

  • We attended the ceremony as parto of DisneySMMoms. Merida was beautiful, my kids were very excited to see her and all the Princess together. Congrats Merida!

  • As a proud daughter of Scotland, it was quite emotional to see this video which celebrates the heritage of our country in ‘Brave’. Merida is a very strong and positive role model!

‘Coronated’ would be the correct term in this case, as only kings and queens are ‘crowned’ – princes and princesses would be ceremoniously presented with a coronet instead of a crown, as can be seen in the video, presented by Queen Elinor.

  • Not going to lie, my eyes misted watching this video.

  • We loved the ceremony. It was very exciting. My daughter Sofia is a huge fan of Merida. She loves her. We were in Magic Kingdom last February and found Merida next to Cinderella’s Castle.

  • She looks fantastic. It looks like she stepped out of the movie, and not that re-design.

  • I’ll hail Princess Merida.

  • I’m wondering what has happened to my Princess of the Gypsies Esmeralda? I last saw her just a few years ago and have a Great picture of her. I hope she is brought back into the Kingdom once more.

  • My favorite Princess!!! However, no such word as “Coronated” exists. Is this Disney speak?

  • Coronation is the official term for being crowned.

  • Coronated is used correctly here. My source is the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

    cor·o·nate transitive verb \ˈkȯr-ə-ˌnāt, ˈkär-\
    cor·o·nat·ed cor·o·nat·ing

I would post the link, but I don’t think outside linking is allowed. 😉

  • I can’t believe I missed this! It was on the calendar, but then I had to attend a fundraiser.

  • This is great! Even my boys love Merida 🙂

  • Coronated?? Maybe “Crowned” is a better word?

  • It was cool to see Merida’s mother there.

  • I was lucky enough to attend this morning as part of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. Despite the heat, I got goosebumps during the ceremony. It was absolutely incredible.

  • Where will Merida’s meet and greet area be? Will Queen Elinor appear there with her? My autistic daughter would LOVE a mother/daughter photo and autographs.

  • You mean “crowned”? 😉

  • Wish my wife and I could have been there to witness this. Would have been another perfect day for kilt wearing at Disney World!

  • Congratulations to Merida and, of course, the Pixar staff who created a character that resonates so strongly with the audience.
