Today is National Love a Tree Day! In its honor, here’s an aerial look at the tree farm at Walt Disney World Resort back in August 1969, and again in February 1981.

While there are many trees across Walt Disney World Resort, one in particular stands out in my mind: The Tree of Life, the perfect icon for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
Head outside and show your favorite tree some love. I’ve already hugged about 15, thanking them for the shade they provide on those warm Florida summer days ahead.

Thanks for the follow-up Nate, very interesting! I always find it amazing how well manicured the properties are and how overnight any given landscape can magically transform! Kudos to the grounds crew.
Is this shrubbery for the animals to eat grown on Bear Island Rd.?
I too would love to hear about the tree farm today, it is still on the grounds and do they do tours/allow visitors? It would be a neat landscaping based complement to behind the seeds/living with the land.
Do you have any specific figures on number of different types of species, how that has increased or decreased over the years and how frequently the grounds crews need to tap into the farm? Is the tree farm in the same location and has that increased in size?
Hi Richard. I’ve had some help from my friends at the Walt Disney World Library and Research Center. The tree farm moved in 1971. The above picture in 1969 is a different location to the one in 1981. Today, it’s not technically a tree farm. Disney’s Animal Kingdom uses it to grow browse (shrubbery for the animals to eat). There is no longer a tree farm used today at Walt Disney World Resort and we don’t have a current count of the number of species of trees grown there back when the tree farm was used to grow trees.
