This past Saturday, I attended the 50th Anniversary event for Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at the Disneyland Hotel. You might recall my fellow author Michelle Harker telling you about the event a few months ago on the Disney Parks Blog. I was thrilled to go, as words can’t describe my love for this classic Disney attraction. I took a few photographs that I thought I would share with you.

For this event, we introduced several new wondrous creations including original works of art, prints, decorative objects, apparel and more. The Disney pin team also released several new pins including a popular mystery pin set. Guests who attended the event had a first purchase opportunity for these items. I really wanted to take home the original art by SHAG (aka Josh Agle) of the Enchanted Tiki Garden at Disneyland park (sadly, I didn’t find a suitcase big enough).
Throughout the day, guests could meet the artists who created items for this event including Disney Design Group artists, Alex Maher and Mike Sullivan, as well as Disney-inspired artists Dave Avanzino, Jody Daily, Jeremy Fulton, Doug Horne, Katie Kelly, Kevin Kidney, Noah, Robert Olszewski, SHAG, Javier Soto and Yakovetic.
Attendees had a spacious area for trading pins with each other; and the event team offered four decorated trading boards throughout the day. I loved seeing the oversized attraction posters hanging above the trading area.
One of the highlights of the event was listening to Disney Legends Bob Gurr and Rolly Crump talk about creating the original Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland park. They joined some current Walt Disney Imagineers for three insightful and entertaining sessions. I could have listened to them talk for hours about working with Walt Disney!
To continue the 50th anniversary celebration this week, we are offering a tee-shirt on the Disney Parks online store – DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents – through July 7, 2013 (please allow six-to-eight weeks for delivery).

Great recap, Steven. I attended this event and the SHAG cocktail party as well. I can’t even begin to describe what a fabulous time I had. New friends, new art, I met SHAG & Bob Gurr (!!) I danced, I drank, I shopped, I got autographs, I took photos…all in all a very Enchanted event!
This was such a special event! We had a BLAST! Great people, not overly crowded, and the wonderful opportunity to meet Bob Gurr and SHAG! Steven, do you have any more photos?
Looks like it was fun! I wish I could have been there.
I could kick myself for not attending this event. Never again will I make that mistake. Disneyana sold out of pretty much every item by the time we got there Monday. 🙁 we hosted our own Tiki Room anniversary party on Saturday and my niece bought me the C&D Dole Whip pin as a hostess gift. Soooo happy. It’s the one I wanted. Guess I’ll be buying one of the last Giclees still available. Love the merchandise.
I want a lot of this stuff. Will some or most of these items be coming to DisneyStore?
@Camille – I asked the online store team who said that there are no plans at this time to carry these items. Your best option would be to contact the Merchandise Guest Services team by telephone at 877-560-6477 or by email at
Merchandise.Guest.Services@DisneyParks.com
Can you mention whether there will be a promotion online for theme park merchandise for Independence Day, like your post a couple of weeks ago about the free shipping???
@Charles – Great question. I’ve asked the online team who said to keep watching the Disney Parks online store. I guess there are a variety of promotions they hold. If I hear of something different, I’ll advise.
I so wish I had been able to attend this event. At least I have the T-shirt ordered! : )
Will any of this amazing merchandise be making its way to the normal park stores? As an overflow of not sold merch? I didn’t have enough money to buy an 85$ ticket to just get a small 20$ two pin Tiki/Fab five set.
@Patti – I’m checking with the Disney pin team for an answer.
@Alyxandria – Please see the locations listed above that are offering select items first released at this event.
Can you (or anyone monitoring these comments) confirm whether the Chip & Dale Pineapple Treat LE (500) Pin sold out during the event? Thanks in advance.
It was great to see you Steven and we had an awesome time at the event! It was most memorable for us both!
@Debra – Aloha! Great to see you as well. Glad to hear you had fun.
Will any of this amazing merchandise be making its way to Walt Disney World?!?!
@Jay – You will be happy to know that select items are being carried in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. I spoke with the planning team who advised to check the folloing locations:
