During a gathering of Disney fans at D23 Expo on August 10, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs premiered a trailer from an upcoming movie that explores the past, present and future of Walt Disney Imagineering by noted documentary filmmaker Leslie Iwerks. Ms. Iwerks comes from a family with deep Disney history — her grandfather was an early Disney animator and her father is a former Imagineer — and her previous work includes profiles of Pixar Animation Studios and visual effects house Industrial Light & Magic.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is partnering with Leslie on this latest project that will explore in unprecedented depth the facts, faces and fantastic stories behind the magic of Disney Parks. The film is due for release in 2016, but you can view the trailer today below.

The video doesn’t work, it says “video is private.”
I’m getting the same error as Nathan. Will another video be uploaded for viewing? Thanks!
I want to see the trailer, but the video does not seem to be working.
Thanks for the heads up, Christina, Nathan and Paul! It should be fixed now.
It is fixed and looks amazing, and with a 2016 release date, I am guessing there will be much more about this at d23 2015, which excites me because I plan to be there!!!!!
Three years for this to be released seems like a long time. But based off the awesome footage in that trailer, it looks to be very much worth the wait!
I’ve read so many books on WED/Imagineering and Walt’s vision…can’t wait to finally see some of the words come to life!
Can’t wait! Loved the Pixar documentary!
Leslie indeed has a rich Disney family heritage. I am excited to see this documentary especially after attending many panels this weekend that focused on our Disney Legends and our Imagineers at the D23 Expo! Thank you Leslie for creating this movie and thank you Erin for sharing.
This looks lovely! Why did it take this long to make something like this? It’s gonna be a long 3 years waiting, hope a bunch more trailers/previews come to us WED fans until then.
That is going to be a great movie!! Can’t wait!!
LIKE! LIKE! LIKE!!!!! 3 Years is a long time, but this footage looks amazing!!!

Like Gayle, I really enjoyed the Pixar documentary
Very excited to see this documentary in full! Loved “The Pixar Story”. Leslie Iwerks does an awesome job!
2016?! That seems like an absurdly long time to wait for release.
This looks fabulous! WOW!
Will this be released in Australia?
Hi Erin,
Thank you for sharing this exciting piece, I can’t wait to see this historical movie!
Best regards,
This looks ah-mazing. The trailer literally gave me chills. I can’t wait to see this and get more of an insight on the magic of Disney Imagineers. 😀
Erin,
Ms. Iwerks family has contributed more to the success of all things Disney than most will ever realize; her Grandfather especially. I’m happy to see her fine documentary skills continue with this film and can’t wait to see the finished work! It is great to see pieces like this that combine a look back at what was and show us visions of what will be.
Let us all remember and preserve Walt’s vision and help ensure that his legacy endures while building for tomorrow. Let us also remember all of those people that work in support of his dream. Ms. Iwerks documentary will certainly help!!

PS: The Expo was Fantasmic!!
2016? I can’t wait that long. Excited about the trailer.
As a mother of one of the imagineers I am always amazed at what these minds create!
I, like always, look forward to the future of Disney and Imagineering!
Just saw this. They should contact my dad, a retired Imagineer of 35 years. He’s still around and dates back to animating Mr. Lincoln. He retired in the mid 90’s.
