Vintage Walt Disney World: Relaxing at the Ol’ Watering Hole

Happy National Relaxation Day! In honor, I’ll be writing as few words as possible (I’m taking it easy), but will allow Goofy to demonstrate the power of relaxation in this photograph from 1979 at Disney’s River Country. He’s found the perfect way to beat the heat on a warm August day at the Walt Disney World Resort. Splash down!

  • Oh how I miss River Country. Great memories.

  • Love this picture. I remember playing there as a child. Some of my earliest Disney memories are from River Country and Discovery Island. Does WDW have any plans to do anything with these properties?

  • I remember visiting River Country on my first ever trip to WDW in 1984! What a great experience!

  • It was a sad day when that closed. The other water parks being good in their own rite, don’t have the same intimate feeling.

  • I wax nostalgic when riding the boat and I see its remnants…

  • I have a love/hate relationship with these old photos. I love the nostalgia but I hate when it shows something that’s no longer there.

  • I love and miss river country!! Going to Fort Wilderness was always a tradition in my family! had alot of great memories there as well as river country and the old discovery island!!
