With the start of a new year, I stopped by merchandiser Jeanne Lewis’ office to get a first look at new Disney pins coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. These monthly or quarterly pin collections are a great place to start if you are new to collecting or trading pins. Here is a look at some of my favorites coming in 2014.

The Piece of Disney History collection returns in 2014 as a monthly pin collection. Introduced in 2005, each limited edition pin in this collection contains small pieces of items from attractions or shows. For Walt Disney World Resort, the collection will contain items from the former SpectroMagic parade which originally debuted on October 1, 1991. For Disneyland Resort, the collection will contain items from various attractions such as a purple glove that Jessica Rabbit wore in Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin at Disneyland park.

The monthly, perfume bottle-inspired “Eau de Magique” collection will be shared between Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Each limited edition pin will be attached to a scented backer card. Guests at Disneyland Resort should also look for the monthly “Funny Business” collection which features windows with some clever pretend businesses.

There are two different quarterly collections coming next year – “Keyhole Characters” for Walt Disney World Resort and “Ink and Paint Collection” for Disneyland Resort.

Jeanne also shared details about two surprise pin collections – a Steampunk-inspired “Mechanical Kingdom” for Florida and a music-inspired classic character collection for California. These surprise pins will be released at random times throughout the year. For the music collection, the pins can be placed next to each other to form a scene.

I also got a look at the “Characters & Camera” surprise pin set. This limited release 30-pin collection will be presented in a mystery boxes (two randomly selected pins per box), and will be released at random times and locations in Florida and California throughout the year. There will also be limited edition, monochromatic chaser pins included in this set. Each chaser pin will have an edition size of 250, and will be found at random in the mystery boxes.

Finally, I couldn’t resist giving you a look at a jumbo-sized pin celebrating the upcoming 25th Anniversary of Disney’s Hollywood Studios this May.

Happy Trading!

  • The Characters and Cameras pins are killing me. Spent a full week down there a week or two after they came out and never saw any. Driving me nuts!!

  • Hello
Will Disney issue a Tax Day April 15th pin. It doesn’t appear it will be issued in 2014?
    Thank you,
    CPA in FL

  • Hello!

I was wondering if there was any updates regarding the “music” series. I managed to snag the first of the series with Horace back in January when I went to Pin Traders for the Eau de Magique with Mulan but I haven’t seen anything since. Any news?

And thank you for the posts! Sure do appreciate them 🙂

  • Steven,

Wonderful article/posting…I was wondering if you had any transparency as to when we might see a new release of the gift with purchase pins at the Disneyland Resorts? As of our last trip to DLR in December, the “Lock” pins were the only ones available.

  • Where in the parks are the pins sold? This will be our first trip to Disney this year 🙂 Thanks!

    • @Jennifer – I hope you have a wonderful trip. I’m unsure if you are headed to Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort.

For Walt Disney World, I would invite you to visit Disney’s Pin Traders at Downtown Disney Marketplace. They have the biggest selection of pins to collect. You could also try Pin Central in Epcot or Frontierland Trading post at the Magic Kingdom Park.

For Disneyland, you should try Disney’s Pin Traders at Downtown Disney District, Little Green Men Store Command in Tomorrowland or Westward Ho! in Frontierland.

  • Where at the Disneyland Resort should I go to get one of these pins on its release date?

    • @Arthur – There are three main locations I would try first:
      – Little Green Men Store Command in Tomorrowland
      – Westward Ho! in Frontierland
      – Disney’s Pin Traders at Downtown Disney District.

Depending on the edition size, there may be additional locations.

  • Hi! When are the hidden Mickey pins for this year going to be released?

    • @Margaret – Please stay tuned for a look at the new pins for 2014. I know they will be arriving at Disney Parks in the coming weeks.

  • Are there plans for a Pin Trading Night in January/February 2014 at Walt Disney World?

    • @Michael – There will not be a Disney Trading Night for January. I believe the Merchandise Special Events and Pin Trading teams are still looking at future dates. I invite you to watch our official Disney Pin Trading site for updates – http://www.DisneyPins.com

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Steam Punk pins. I may have to start trading just because of them!!!

  • When are the new Hidden Mickey pins coming out…impatiently waiting to finish the parking lot series Heros( I am up to date so far including the ones from 9 years ago) but looking for the dwarfs for my husband…

    • @Cindy – New Hidden Mickey pins are currently being shipping to Disney Parks. This means they haven’t been distributed to Cast Members. I intend to have a Disney Parks Blog article highlighting the new collections once received, so please stay tuned.

  • Hey Steven,

I absolutely love the “A Piece of Disneyland History” Pins. Is there a way to buy them online after they have been released. I live in Utah and i don’t get to go to California as much as i would like to!

    • @Tyler – That’s a great collection. I also know it’s a popular one which means that availability may be limited. You could try our Merchandise Guest Services team 30 days after the pin is initially released. I can’t guarantee that they would have access to the pin but they may be able to assist. There are two options available to contact them: by telephone at 877-560-6477 or by email at Merchandise.Guest.Services@DisneyParks.com.

  • Any chance the Keyhole Characters will be available online? I’d love to get the Alice one, but won’t be at WDW until this summer.

    • @Lisa – I don’t believe that collection will be released on the Disney Parks online store.

  • I love these pins! Is there any way we can buy these pins at the online Disney store?

  • I’m gonna be in the parks starting May 4th, 2014, am I gonna miss that 25th Anniversary Pin for DHS? Or will it be available for a decent amount of time

    • @Michael and Zack – At this point, I don’t have any confirmation of things related to Disney’s Hollywood Studios 25th Anniversary. Please stay tuned.

  • Anything special being planned for the Studios 25th Anniversary al la the WDW 40th , and, EPCOT 30th?

  • This released once a month stuff frustrates me. I’m a huge Alice in Wonderland Fan, and “need” both of the above shown AIW Pins. Is there any way to find out what is being released when?

    • @Elizabeth – Sorry to hear of your frustrations. Your best option would be to visit http://www.DisneyPins.com

That is the official Disney Pin Trading website that lists releases by month. Using the drop down tools, you can search by month and by location. I hope this helps.

  • Sounds good. So when will Disneyland’s pin trading tables return so we can have a chance to trade these or for these pins?

    • @Matthew – I spoke with the Disney Pin team. They said there are no plans to reintroduce the trading tables. They encourage Guests to take advantage of other opportunities to trade such as Pin Trading Nights. Cast Members wearing lanyards also are happy trade pins.

  • Steven, Thank you for the Posting. It’ is nice to see a preview of some of the things to come! These pins look amazing. It is going to be fun collecting them this year. On a side note, Is there any way to find out if the Piece of Disney Movie pins will indeed be back sometime soon? As a movie collector, these pins are some of my all-time favorites and there are some films that I would love to see done to add to my collection. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

    • @David – That’s a wonderful collection! I love how the team used pieces of classic Disney films for the pins. I don’t recall seeing any additional development at this time. I’ll share your interest with the pin team.

  • Wow those are some awesome pins to look forward to in the coming year! Might there be some Vinylmation coming as well?

    • @Dennis – Yes! There are lots of exciting things coming for Vinylmation. Stay tuned in the new year for a story highlighting new things for 2014.

  • Hi Steven,
The SpectroMagic Pin that you show here is different then the one listed on the Disney Parks Merchandise Pin site. When is this pin being released? The other SpectroMagic Pin is being released on Feb 13th, its UPC is 400008243568.

    • @Rhonda and Kevin – I’m happy to hear of your interest in that collection. There are several pins planned for the upcoming year and they are typically released monthly. As Kevin mentioned, http://www.DisneyPins.com would be the best place to check for release dates. I thought the Mickey Mouse pin was great for this story as that image is immediately recognized by fans of SpectroMagic.

  • Will there be a new SpectroMagic pin each month? My family will be there next summer and I can’t wait to get some of these!

  • Hi Steven,

As always, your posts are informative and very entertaining! We have attached our favourite pins on our Disney backpack and now it’s so heavy that we can’t carry it around the Parks easily. Not mention that we delay fellow travellers through Security check point because the Security Guards always become mesmerized with our pin collection.

We’re just going to have to make room for these beauties.

    Thanks again,
    Best regards,
    Jacqueline

    • @Jacqueline – That’s such a great story! Thank you for sharing. In my previous role as Project Manager for Disney Trading, I met several Guests who had a similar sounding pin collection. I guess it’s like me and my endless tiki collection (though pins seem to be slightly more portable – ha!).

  • They look great! When will the new Hidden Mickey pins for 2014 start showing up?

    • @Carol – I spoke with the pin team before the holidays. They said a new wave of Hidden Mickey pins is en route to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. They haven’t arrived yet but they have planned a a new series for this year. I’m currently working on that story for the Disney Parks Blog, though I don’t have a confirmed date as to when they will be distributed to Cast Members. Please stay tuned.

  • When will the Spectromagic pin be available? We’ll be there late next week, and I’d love one!

    • @Lainie – Glad to hear of your interest. I know that pin is coming to Walt Disney World Resort in 2014. It won’t happen for a few months if I recall correctly. I selected it for this story as it’s an iconic image from the parade. I invite you to visit http://www.DisneyPins.com as we will share release dates once confirmed.
