Celebrate 14 Days of Love at Disney Parks – Love is a Commitment – A Military Family Reunion

Remember our post featuring a real fairytale engagement right inside Magic Kingdom Park? We talked about promises and the commitment a promise must survive in order to withstand all that it encounters. Sadly, often times the promises we make are broken, life gets in the way and we lose sight of what truly matters. But there are those that show us it can be done, restoring hope for each of us.

Today I’d like to share a story about a couple who eat, sleep, and breath the word commitment in its truest form and have endured every obstacle distance has given them.
Misty and Eric Campbell of Marysville, California met in their sixth grade classroom and have been going steady since. Before the “I do’s” and expansion of their family, Eric committed to serve in the US Air Force. Eight years and three kids later, Eric is now a Master Sergeant Pro Superintendent working with U2 Jets and spending much of his career apart from his children and wife.

“It’s our entire life,” Misty shared. “It may not be easy, but we’re used to it. It’s what we know.”

While away from his wife and children, Eric shared he makes a conscious effort to communicate any way possible.

“We’ve done holidays through a computer screen,” Eric shared. “But I’m really fortunate I’m able to see and talk to my kids, some jobs don’t allow that, so I’m grateful.”

Following his plane ride home to the US, Misty brought Eric to Walt Disney World Resort to spend quality time alone together after their six month separation. So, to enhance their reunion, my friends and I at Disney Floral & Gifts recommended our From Mickey and Minnie with Love, an In-Room Celebration designed to feel as if Mickey and Minnie had come to your resort room to create a one-of-a-kind magical experience. A trail of rose petals led them to chocolates, a pixie dusted arrangement of roses, much like our Disney Dozen floral offering, and a spa basket for two complete with personalized bath towels and more, allowing them to step into a magical Disney moment.

Misty and Eric also experienced a romantic portrait session with our friends from Disney Fine Art Photography to commemorate their special occasion, one that would make Misty totally feel like a princess that had just stepped into a dream.

But since Dad still hadn’t seen the kids, we helped Misty create a reunion that the Campbell’s would never forget back home too!

Before their departure from Walt Disney World Resort, we gave them tips on how to create an unforgettable homecoming with our Celebrate with Mickey candy cake, made with help from Mickey, and including one very special wishing candle.

Upon their arrival, Misty entered their home with the wish filled cake, and told her children that if they wished hard enough Dad might come home.

After repeating the words “Dreams come true” over and over again, Eric finally came through the door. Talk about a grand entrance! All three kids ran and clung to him, the type of embrace you’d never want to end.

Since their reunion, Misty shared with us the kids have not been able to let go of their Mickey plush or Daddy since.

“What an amazing way to end our little getaway,” Misty shared. And an even more amazing way to close our 14 Days of Love series. This story encapsulates all the characteristics of love we’ve shared this week.

It just goes to show, whether young or old, romance or reunion, we need to take time to express our affection, appreciation and admiration for those who have touched our lives. We would all love to live at Disney, the place where dreams come true, so that every day we could experience that magic, good feelings and warmhearted stories we love so much. But inside each of us is the magic to be Disney to someone else, no matter where we are. Just like Walt did for each of us, we have the power to make people feel special, leaving a memory in our hearts forever. Now the torch is ours to take, how will we be Disney for someone else?
