“Wait a second, Greg. What are these “vinyl records” upon which you speak so fondly?”
I’ve met young people who have no idea what a “record” is. It’s a round, flat disc with the sound carefully carved into a spiral of grooves. You put a record on a turntable and set it spinning while a tiny needle, attached to a “tone arm,” picks up the groove vibrations and sends them through a sound system to entertain you. Know why we call them “albums?” It’s because early 78-rpm records could only hold about three minutes on each side. An album was literally a book filled with envelopes to store the discs.
12-inch long-playing records or “LP’s” — which could hold about 60 minutes on one 33 1/3-rpm disc — were introduced in 1948. The next year brought vinyl “singles,” 7-inch 45-rpm records that spun upon many an Elvis and Beatles fan’s turntable. Today’s compact discs can hold about 80 minutes of audio. Of course, downloads have a wide range of lengths.
You can still buy brand-new vinyl records — and there are lots of ways to play them. Many of your favorite neighborhood stores and online retailers sell vinyl records. Turntable sales are actually very strong.
Records are remarkable to behold as they spin out their magic. You can look at a record’s surface and SEE the music nestled in the grooves. The grooves pulsate as the needle zooms within them, like a Star Wars X-wing starfighter, careening through narrow canyons to save the galaxy.

I know Disney is about great music, but aren’t the fans now listening to the soundtrack MORE than they’re watching the movie?
It’s become “the Let It Go Movie”, not the story of Anna & Elsa…Tangled had good songs too, but at least we remembered Rapunzel. (And come to think of it, I don’t remember any of the two or three songs from Wreck-It Ralph, apart from the Sugar Rush theme.) 🙂
Quick question… does it matter how many we buy? For example, if I buy three vinyl records on one day, does that count as three separate chances for me to get the poster?
What was that, my darling 10-year-old daughter? What does “RPM” mean? That’s “revolutions per minute”– how many times the record spins in a minute.
Mr. Greg may not remember that far back, but there were even records that turned slowly… 16 RPM… and before flat discs, the grooves were carved into wax cylinders. Yes, dear, kind of like the writing in the rocks in “Atlantis”.
Now let me show you your grandfather’s Victrola, that belonged to his father before him….
Greg, Is there any possibility of the World of Color Winter Dreams version of Let it Go getting a release that we can purchase? The orchestrated version in the show was very epic and powerful and it’s definitely something I’d love to have in my disney music collection.
Does it matter when we purchase. I believe the facebook post stated the first 50 customers. Is that from 12:00 a.m. EST or PST? Or is it simply random?
Does the fact that my birthday is on Wednesday give me any extra chance to get a John Lasseter signature? =)
When and how will the people who won be notified?

Eric–No, not really. Most people I know remember the film as being the story of Anna and Elsa. Frozen is a fantastic movie. It had a good story, in addition to the great music. Just because there is an emphasis on the soundtrack, does not mean that people are listening to the soundtrack more than watching the film.
Frozen has done incredibly well at the box office. People are still visiting theaters to see the movie. Frozen comes out on DVD/Blu-ray in less than a month, and the film is still playing at many theaters (including the AMC 12 at Downtown Disney, Anaheim) 🙂
…I also want to add that the characters in Frozen are awesome, and the film had some great twists. 🙂
Is there a list of winners?
