Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures in Olympia and Rhodes, Greece

All this month, I’m showing you Port Adventures your family can enjoy this summer in some of our brand-new destinations in Greece. Today let’s look at two of the ports you’ll visit on our 9-night Mediterranean cruise, starting on the mainland with Katakolon, Greece, the gateway to Olympia.

As you may have guessed from the name, Olympia is the birthplace of the Olympic Games. We offer several Port Adventures that include a visit to Ancient Olympia, where you can explore historic sites like the Temple of Zeus and the original Olympic stadium and gymnasium.

Depending on your family’s ages and interests, you can also combine a visit here with another culturally rich experience. On the Historic Olympia And Archaeological Museum tour, you’ll also have the chance to get up close to ancient artifacts and artwork, including the Hermes of Praxiteles statue. Or, for a hands-on cultural activity, your family can choose the Historic Olympia And Greek Folk Dances excursion that includes a visit to a charming, hillside estate for traditional Greek food and folk dancing! If you’re looking for relaxation, cruisers ages 21 and up can join the Historic Olympia, Archaeological Museum And Wine Tasting Port Adventure, which gives you the chance to sip local wine and tour the Mercouri vineyards and winery, a beautiful estate established in 1864.

Now on to the Greek Isles … One of the breathtaking islands you’ll visit on this cruise is Rhodes, home to storied architecture, a mountainous countryside and sun-kissed beaches on the Aegean Sea.

One of the most popular destinations in Rhodes is the charming seaside town of Lindos, marked by its whitewash buildings and ancient Acropolis. The Lindos Acropolis And Ceramic Factory For Families tour not only gives you the chance to explore the town and climb to the base of the Acropolis, but you can also learn the art of Greek pottery by painting your own at a local ceramic factory.

The Filerimos, Kallithea And Taste Of Rhodes Port Adventure combines the beauty, cuisine and history of Greece with a visit to Filerimos and Kallithea. Historic Filerimos is one of Rhodes’ most beautiful areas, and on its ancient road to the Acropolis, you’ll see the foundations of the temple of Zeus and Athena. After exploring a domed monastery at the top, your next stop is the town of Kallithea for sightseeing and a taste of delicious local Rhodean food and wine. It’s a dining experience you’re sure to never forget!
