Beginning in September 1991, Magic Kingdom Park kicked off its 20th anniversary celebration early with the debut of a new parade – the “Surprise Celebration Parade.”

The centerpieces of the parade were towering balloons (some measuring as tall as 35-40 feet) depicting Disney characters celebrating festivals from around the world, including balloons for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Roger Rabbit. The parade also featured festive costumes and floats. Other Disney characters walked the parade route carrying red Mickey balloons.

  • I was already remembering this parade even as you posted about it. I’m currently scanning my slides and negatives from my Disney trips. It is strange to think this happened over 20 years ago! It would be a lot of fun to see some of the old parades once again.

  • WOW thanks for posting this! That was the parade I saw on my first ever Disney trip which was also Sept of ’91 I was 5 going on 6 at the time and I just fell in Love with Disney later working there in college and now next week I will be visiting with my husband it’s his first trip!

  • When did this parade end?

  • Was watching an old episode of Full House when the family visited the parks. This parade was featured in the episode!
