Today runDisney announced a brand new event that I think many of you Disney cruisers will be thrilled to hear about! For the first time ever, you have the chance to complete the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge, an exclusive to Disney Cruise Line guests who are participating in the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.

CCC0769561

The inaugural challenge, which takes place in January 2015, combines our Castaway Cay 5K with any Walt Disney World Marathon race with a distance of 5K or longer. Following the completion of an eligible race at Walt Disney World Resort, cruisers on the January 12 Disney Dream voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida can then take part in the second half of the challenge – the Castaway Cay 5K – when the ship stops at our private island in the Bahamas.

If you complete both races within the pacing requirements, you’ll earn the Inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge Medal in addition to your Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and Castaway Cay 5K finisher medals.

What’s more, just for this cruise we’ll have exclusive activities designed for those of you participating in this challenge, plus featured menu items and special merchandise.

More details, including registration information and booking procedures, are available now on runDisney.com. On your mark, get set, go!

  • I’m cruising the 2nd week of November. We are cuising on the Dream and have the 2 day Castaway Cay itenerary. I want to complete the Castaway Cay 5K challenge, but won’t be doing any other Disney run at this time. HOw do I sign up for the 5K for the first morning we are at Castaway Cay?

  • My Husband and I are running the Dopey challenge and I am so excited to have this come up. We initially only planned on staying at WDW for 5 nights and flying home the day after the marathon. After changing my hotel reservations from a deluxe resort to a value resort the difference basically paid for this cruise. The timing is a perfect recovery run from the marathon and we will actually get to have a vacation with our vacation that isn’t just running!!! 5 races 8 medals in 1 week!!! going to be the vacation of a lifetime!! Thank you RunDisney 🙂

  • Years ago when the Disney Wonder was brand new, early in 2000. I did my own 5K early in the morning past the old airstrip, with the big ’X’ painted on it ending at the empty “adults only” beach. I think I had to run around the airstrip a few times to get any distance. I had just run the Disney World Marathon a few days before and needed an easy recovery run. Back then it was lonely and a little too quiet back toward the beach. I would love to do this race, but I did the 20th marathon and usually skip a couple of years between Disney World Marathons, so I didn’t sign up this year. It would have been fun to see the difference 15 years has made. Anyway I may have been first to run both the marathon and 5K, so where do I collect my medal?

  • Wow! My husband has wanted to take a cruise right after the marathon for YEARS! We’re torn on this one because we’re really low on vacation time. We also have to watch how much school. Probably will still see if we can go – 8 medals is quite tempting!

  • Will this CC5K have an age limit? My 11 year old was not allowed to run the CC5k race but was allowed to run the 5k at WDW. This would be an important thing to know before we book!

  • Please, please, PLEASE offer this for Princess Half Weekend!!! That would be the Best birthday present EVER!!!

  • Oh, my goodness! That sounds like the perfect vacation to me. I love it!

  • I have a cruise booked a week after the races as I am spending a week vacation with my family. It would be nice if the option was available then as well. 8 Disney medals would be fantastic, 6 for Dopey and 2 for Castaway 🙂

  • Run Disney’s website says “Use the promotional code RUN at the time of booking your Disney Cruise Line vacation.” I tried that but I got this message on the DCL website “We apologize, but the vacation dates you’ve selected are currently sold out.” However, after taking out the promo RUN, I can get the cruise date to show up and it is not sold out. What am I doing wrong?

  • The only race left is Goofy…

  • Does this mean that ONLY those who participate in the WDW Marathon weekend, and ONLY go on the Disney Dream on January 12th can participate, or can you do any cruise in the calendar year, and any runDisney event in the calendar year to get the medal? For the Coast to Coast and other 2 part runDisney medals, it is within the calendar year. It seems unfair to have to participate on one specific cruise (what if in-climate weather stops that single cruise from docking at Cast Away Cay?) and one specific race weekend, which is already sold out.

  • So Happy you listened after the survey! We are booked and BEYOND excited. It will be my first Marathon and having the cruise right after will be AMAZING. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

  • SWEET!

  • this sounds really cool and another way to get more people excited about running and participating in fun family events offered from Disney.

  • I wish this had been announced before all of the WDW Marathon weekend events had sold out.
