Sure, Sunday is National Grandparents Day but we’ve been celebrating the endearing relationship that exists between grandparents and grandchildren all summer. It’s a club of two generations that parents don’t have a membership to. And at Walt Disney World Resort, there are amazing family adventures to experience, especially if you have the word “grand” in your title.
A Grand Adventure between grandparents and grandchildren at Disney Parks is like no other outing. Whether it’s flying on elephants, meeting characters or just exploring the parks, it can be an experience of a lifetime. Take a look at some of our most popular “grand” adventures.

10 years ago, my parents travelled with my husband and I to Disneyland for the holiday of a lifetime. We all wished upon that star for the gift of children – I experienced 10 miscarriages and 2 failed attempts to adopt. Now, we’re planning a return trip in 2015 with our two adopted daughters to thank our lucky Disney stars, and we’ll be there for Grandparents Day. If you see a family group with happy tears in our eyes, please excuse us, we’re just so very blessed to be able to share our Disney dreams with our newest family members!
One of my favorite memories was coming to Disney World for the first time with my family. I was 8 years old (3rd grade). My mom and dad surprised my sister, brother and I at Christmas with Disney-themed gifts. Our final gift (which was the smallest), was a small card that said that we were going to visit Mickey Mouse in January! I think I just about flipped out! One of my favorite memories at Disney World was eating at the Sci-Fi Diner at MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios). Every trip to Disney World since then, including the one that is coming up in November, we have to eat at Sci-Fi. It is our family tradition! This trip in November, my parents and my sister’s family are coming along, so it will be a great time to spend it with my parents, sister (and her family) and my family! What’s even better, my son is in 3rd grade too! 🙂
This is going to be a Grand Adventure for our family, and one vacation that we will never forget! I love Disney!!!
one of my earliest memories- is a very overwhelming day in late 1971– when my grandfather took my brother and I to the Magic Kingdom. The only thing I remember are the tiki birds and getting an orange bird drink. He told my parents he was taking us to the fishing hole and would be gone all day. Good thing he did, the next day it rained like crazy and my parents decided not to go.
My most precious memories are the trips to Disney with my first granddaughter and then this past summer a trip with both my granddaughters. These are moments I can treasure for the rest of my life. I first took my children there when they were small and now have taken both of my grandchildren as well.
One of my favorite nights at Walt Disney World was a night when I sat around the pool at Animal Kingdom Lodge with a group of grandparents from different states who were all talking about their grandkids. They all loved them so much and were so proud of them! It was really, really sweet.
This is a perfect example of why each generation keeps returning with younger generations to share in the meaning of having fun and a reasoning for never having to grow up in the Happiest Place on Earth – Disney!
