Video Rewind: Holidays at Disneyland Park, 2009

The holidays always make me sentimental – it’s a time to look back, not just over the past year but further back to holidays of the past. In that spirit, I wanted to take you on a look back at some of the holiday videos we shared here on the Disney Parks Blog way back in December 2009.

Valarie Sukovaty showed us how our candy makers create the hand-made candy canes that have become a holiday tradition at the Disneyland Resort.

Heather Hust Rivera took us for a look back at Disneyland park holiday decorations through the years.

In another look back that year, Valarie showed us how Disneyland park holiday parades have evolved over the years.

I hope you enjoyed this look back, and be sure to visit Holidays at the Disneyland Resort this year before it ends on January 6!

  • Great videos, Erin. Merry Christmas! 🙂

The holiday season has always been such a magical, beautiful time at Disneyland.

I don’t know how it happened, but somehow that candy cane-making video from 2009 slipped past me!

To be honest, as quickly as time flies these days, 2009 seems like it was yesterday. Since then there have been some wonderful additions and changes to the Holidays at Disneyland Resort.

Not only have the Holidays at Disneyland park evolved and changed, but they have evolved at the hotels too! The decorations at the Disneyland Hotel have changed substantially in the last 25 years or so — from the (quite charming) Candy Cane Lane, to the old ice rink, to the tower Christmas tree covered in golden character ornaments, to the current gingerbread Castle, etc.!

Also, I remember the very first Christmas tree at the Grand Californian Hotel, on the first day it went up in 2001. It was so beautiful (and still is!).

    • I know what you mean – time flies! Merry Christmas to you!

  • Wow – nice trip down memory lane. As someone who’s been to Disneyland at least once a year since he was 6 (I’m 52 now) Christmas-time is always the most special as I am sure it is for most people. So many great memories are made from big things like Parades and fireworks – and little things like watching great craftsmen make delicious holiday treats.

The decorations are always so great the I just love hanging out on Main St. soaking it all in. The music of the parade is always such a memory-reminder. Its amazing how these things bring such joy back into our minds. Thanks for sharing.

Merry Christmas to you Erin – and the rest of the Disneyland cast members and crew. Merry Christmas everyone!

    • Merry Christmas to you! Glad you enjoyed the videos.
