If you enjoy MagicBands and all they can do as much as my family does at Walt Disney World Resort then you’re probably not surprised that we’re already celebrating a significant milestone – 10 million MagicBands distributed.
Since our original announcement, MagicBands have become a favorite way for guests to make their visit easier, more personal and magical. The colorful MagicBands link your entire MyMagic+ experience together and can serve as a theme park ticket, access to FastPass+ selections, PhotoPass card as well as a room key for Disney Resort hotel guests. You travel lighter with MagicBands at Walt Disney World Resort.
Recently, MagicBand was named one of Fortune Magazine’s “26 Coolest Gadgets of 2014.” MyMagic+ was also honored with an “Innovation by Design” award by the popular magazine and website, Fast Company. It received the top spot in the “Experience Design” category when Fast Company revealed the 10 best designs of the year at their annual “Innovation by Design” Awards and Conference in New York City.
As regular Disney Parks Blog readers know, you receive a MagicBand if you stay at a Disney Resort hotel or you are a Walt Disney World Passholder. If you are not staying at a Disney Resort hotel and are not a Passholder, you receive a card when you purchase park admission—and you have the option to purchase a MagicBand online or at select retail locations at Walt Disney World Resort.
Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog in future weeks for some new ways you can personalize and show your Disney Side with MagicBands.
Purple MagicBand demand is out of control at my house.
my family has over 20 magic bands 🙂 Looking forward to more special ones to be released in the future!
We have used MagicBands on our past three trips to the parks and all I can say is well done! I know there are a lot of people who don’t like to plan every moment but I absolutely love having everything ready to go when I get to the park and literally on my wrist! Chasing our two year old through a queue is also far easier without having to go through our pockets for a fastpass or ticket. We love them!
I love the Magic Bands, and I have purchased several limited edition ones during my visits to Disney World in the past year.
Are they going to start selling the Magic Bands with artwork (characters, castle, etc.) online anytime soon?
Also, I heard a rumor that the Magic Bands have a “shelf life” of only two years. Is that true? Will all these Magic Bands that I’ve purchased no longer work in the parks approximately two years after my date of purchase?
April – I have been told the same thing – battery life of the MB is 2-3 years. So yes, after a few years, your special MBs won’t function.
Another vote for purple! We NEED purple!
As someone who frequents Disneyland I thought Magic Bands were the worst idea ever and I was glad they were only at WDW… then I took a trip to Florida and had the opportunity to use them. THEY ARE AWESOME! Please bring them to Disneyland ASAP 🙂
Just wearing a band that opens my hotel door, is my annual pass, and allows me to pay for stuff was soooo convenient.
I just wish the passes would signify Annual Passholder when checking out at shops so that when I make purchases I wouldn’t need to carry my AP for the discount.
Greg, Kuleen – I’d heard the purple color kept fading, so they ultimately couldn’t use it. Darn, I’d been hoping for one, too.
Broke in my first Band on my last trip in Sept., and they are nothing short of amazing. Even BEFORE I got to the park, I thought I should wear it on the plane, just to get myself in the mood, and found it got me through the Magical Express check-in at the airport after I landed. I’m thinking there actually -is- nothing they don’t do. 🙂
Ditto on the call for purple! That was originally announced as a color option, but things changed somehow. How about a purple *skin* that can be applied to a band of another color?
Also be aware that when the battery runs out, the band should still work for short-range functions like the admission gates and the FP scanners. The batteries are for transmitting the longer-range scanners such as on-ride photos and identifications. So for many of us, our bands will last a LONG time.
My boyfriend has been wishing for a purple magic band since they were announced, I hope you guys make one soon! 🙂
We used the MB for the first time this month, absolutely loved them. Planning on a trip to Disneyland in October of this year, is there any chance they’ll be using them in DL by then?
I need a purple magic band!!! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love using the bands but is there going to be a recycling program for them once the batteries die?
Has there been any talk about bringing them to Anaheim?
Any talk of allowing guests to “upgrade” to one of the fancier Magic Bands through the personalization process online through My Disney Experience? I would rather just order the Cinderella Castle Magic Band (or whatever other special design) during my vacation planning and have that mailed to me instead of the plain colored bands. That saves me from having to worry about linking my tickets to a band purchased in WDW and it would be a more environmentally friendly option as people wouldn’t end up with as many extra bands they don’t want/need.
Is there any chance that the MagicBands will be available at the Disneyland Resort in California? I have loved using them during my visits to Walt Disney World resort and believe they would be a great asset to the Disneyland resort as well!
How do I get one of those magic bands? I would really love to use one on my trip this year!
