The countdown to the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration is under way! I have the scoop on all of the merchandise hitting stores in May 2015 at the Disneyland Resort. Here’s your first look at the dazzling new art that will appear on three celebration collections and more than 500 merchandise items, including apparel, accessories, headwear, home décor, souvenirs, toys, pins, D-Tech, collectibles and more.
When I think about a diamond, words like timeless, brilliant and eternal come to mind, which is exactly what our artists envisioned, too. Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with Disney Design Group Creative Manager Cody Reynolds about the 60th anniversary, their inspirations and what our Disney fans can expect to find.
The ‘Character’ collection focuses on the characters, attractions and the rich history of the resort. “The palette is retro in style but has a slightly modern twist,” said Cody. “We thought about diamonds as a precious heirloom that can be passed down through generations or can be a promise of a bright new future. We wanted the art to speak to the special moments and memories that our fans have shared over the years, but we also wanted to celebrate the bright, amazing future still ahead and the generations of guests that will continue to share in the experience.” Artist Tip: The art is a timeline with each panel representing a fifteen year span. It begins in black and white (a nod to when Disneyland was first introduced), and slowly transitions becoming more and more colorful with the inclusion of notable characters and icons that denote the timeframe and their debut.
The ‘Castle’ collection is quite dynamic and I think you’ll find the sparkling blue and silver hues almost hypnotizing. “We wanted to capture the heart of Disneyland and the love that so many people have for it,” said Cody. “Sleeping Beauty Castle to us is that heart. A centerpiece you can find day or night, glistening with magical diamond dust.” Accompanying this iconic symbol are none other than Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, who are as beloved and precious as any diamond you can find.
The ‘Diamond’ collection can be described in one word: stunning. The black, gray and silver tones are simple, classic and elegant. “We wanted to create a line based on the shape and qualities of an actual diamond, multi-faceted, unique and endlessly reflective,” says Cody, “it’s what Disneyland represents to so many of us. It gave our artists the opportunity to create rare and special pieces and provide something magical to our guests that we hope will last forever.”
As you can see, there are so many things to share with you and even more stories to tell. In the coming months you’ll get your first look at some of the amazing merchandise lined up for you, including cool must-have items that I can guarantee you won’t want to live without. Also keep an eye out for glimpses of rare, limited edition, high-end items that will make your jaws drop.
Join the countdown to this momentous occasion in Disney history with a special series of pins featuring memorable Walt Disney moments and quotes.
These pins will release each month, beginning January 31 through July 2015. Curious to see what’s inside these diamond shaped pins or when they will be released? Learn more here.

Nicole and I cannot wait to see what magical merchandise that will be available for the 60th. BRING IT ON! 🙂
Hi Eric! I’m glad that you and Nicole are as excited as I am. It will be here before you know it.
Beautiful collections! But I’m still anxiously waiting for some news on “headware.” Perhaps something similar to the golden ears for the 50th? Maybe something more… sparkly? 😉
Hey Karen! There will be no shortage of special ears and headwear for this year’s celebration. Just wait until you see some of the exciting things headed your way.
The” diamond” celebration pins are so magical, I woukd get one in every color.
Can’t wait for all the magic to be revealed!
Ellen, N.J.
I absolutely love the Character Collection piece! (And call me crazy, but it looks like the artists may have taken a cue from Mike Peraza’s “Seasons of Magic” in designing it!)
Hello, will these pins be available on line?
and there goes all my money….
This is going to be an expensive year for me, not only do I get to see Avengers and Star Wars in theaters, and go to Disneyland for the week July 17th, but the Character collection is so amazing, I will probably end up owning many pieces from this set. I can’t wait to see what the collectibles and art will be!!. Are the pins shown above limited edition? If so will they be available through disneystore.com for those of us that aren’t locals?
Hi Tyler! I know exactly how you feel. The countdown series is limited to an edition size of 3000, except for the last one which will be revealed on July 16. That particular pin will be limited to 5,000. As of now, you will only find them at pin locations through the resort. I would suggest trying our Merchandise Guest Services team after 30 days, as that is the typical time frame when they are allowed to offer any pins that should remain.
Awesome! I really like it all…but especially like the “Character” collection. Looking forward to seeing how all this will be incorporated into the merchandise lines.
Are there any plans to make some of these designs into desktop wallpapers? I would really enjoy that. Maybe some animated GIF versions too??? 😉
Thanks for sharing this Michelle. The excitement is growing!
Great idea Roger! Hopefully we’ll be able to do that! I love the Character Collection too. Just wait until you see some of the items within each offering. I’m already blown away and I know all of you will be too.
I love the character collection! Can’t wait to stock up on those items.
Will this stuff be going on sale before the 22nd? I read that there is a merchandise event May 14th and 15…any truth to this?
Hi Chad! You will find some of the product in stores around the middle of May, just prior to the 22nd.
Ooh A Character Dooney??? Please!
Hi Monica! We have something up our sleeves when it comes to Dooney & Bourke… I’ll be sharing it with you shortly.
Michelle,
The Disneyland Resort Diamond Anniversary pins look amazing! Will the pins be limited edition pins, and will they all be available until July, and can we please purchse these pins each month online through DisneyStore.com? I will be in the park this summer, and I hope to buy at least one for sure. Thanks!
Hi Randy! The pins that you see here are limited to an edition size of 3000. There will be one other pin in the series that I will reveal at a later date, that will release in July and will be an edition size of 5,000. As of now, the pins will only be available to purchase in parks. Please check with our Merchandise Guest Services team 30 days after the initial release of each pin to see if any quantities remain should you wish to order any.
When is the merchandise event for the 60th anniversary merchandise?
I love <3 the character collection. However it looks like it's missing It's a Small World. That's a classic Disney Attraction.
Does anyone of a estimation of what the cost is going to be? Under or over $20?
Elena, the pins will available for $15.95 each plus tax.
I’m a graphic designer, for over twenty five years, currently working in the entertainment industry. This is very well done.
My favorite’s the styling in the very top – first one.
I can’t wait to see what this is going to look like, on actual product.
Keep up the magical quality, guys!
Thanks Daniel! Our teams of artists worked very hard on all of these designs. I’m so excited to see everyone’s response to the artwork and clearly the current favorite is the character collection. Thanks for your support and kind words.
Will any 60th merchandise be available online? I’m particularly curious about apparel, such as t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Is there a specific day each pin will be available for purchase?
Hi Linda! I’m including a link to our DisneyParksMerchandise.com site where you’ll find the release date for each pin in the countdown series. http://www.disneyparksmerchandise.com/blog/60th-anniversary-countdown-series-pins/
I really love that cast of characters one. I hope they put it on one of the Tervis tumblers. I already have 8 of the Disney ones.
Hey Alison! I think you’ll be happy with what you’ll find.
Are they going to make any of these graphics available as wallpaper? I’d really LOVE the top design to remind me of our upcoming trip!
We are going to Disneyland May 2-8. Will we be able to get 60th anniversary hats and merchandise? Thanks 🙂
Hi Pam! The merchandise will begin to set on or around May 11 in select locations.
We are in Downtown Disney and DCA this weekend, however we didn’t see any of the anniversary pins anywhere.
Hi Mike! The first pin released on Saturday and to my understanding as of this morning, completely sold out. I’m including a link where you can find out information about the pins and the dates for each release. http://www.disneyparksmerchandise.com/blog/60th-anniversary-countdown-series-pins/
So excited Disneyland will be sporting some new diamonds the same weekend I will! As the site of our first date, will now definitely find some way to incorporate it into our wedding weekend festivities!
Christina, that’s such wonderful news! Congratulations! I’m sure you will be sparkling and dazzling as well. Best wishes to you!
Michelle; I can not wait for July 17, 2015 I’ve made my hotel reservations and I’m counting down the days to Disneyland’s 60th anniversary and my trip to Disneyland, there is no place on earth I would rather be on July 17th I was wondering as the count down gets closer can you please give us a few sneak peeks as to what special anniversary merchandise Disneyland will be offering in the park on July 17th I can not thank you enough for your merchandise updates for all the special Disney parks events and your personal replies to my questions when I needed help in the past. Looking forward to my upcoming trip and the Diamond celebration!
Hi Anthony! Thanks for always checking out the posts and being a fan of our Disney Parks Blog. As we get closer to the anniversary date, I’ll have all the information and details on special merchandise offerings, etc. So keep watching.
I love the Characters collection!!! The story each panel tells really enhances an already incredible design. I wonder what happened to Daisy Duck? I’m sure Donald would want her to be there to celebrate with him!
Regardless, there will be many Disneyland purchases in my future! Will there be a 60th Anniversary Minnie Mouse plush? Please say yes! 😀
Hi Michelle! I think you’ll be excited to see some of the things coming out this May! I don’t think you have anything to worry about in regards to a Minnie Mouse 60th Anniversary plush. Keep watching the Disney Parks Blog and you might even get a sneak peek.
is there a certain time that the pins go on sale? im planning on going the 19 of February and want to plan ahead.
Hi Mar! The pins will be available beginning at shop opening, which is generally the same time as park opening if you are visiting the Resort. I would definitely consider picking it up at Disney Pin Traders, if not.
I’m going to be there mid-late April. Is there any chance that there would be some 60th Anniversary merchandise available?
Where can I buy these? I was just at Disneyland park last week in the Pin Traders stores and the clerks know nothing about them…
I should have asked where to get them online, since I don’t live anywhere close to southern California or Orlando…
Hi! My wife and I will be there early tomorrow morning to wait to get the red diamond pin. Can you help with any information as to where we should stand in line or what shops we can go to buy them? Is there already a plan in place since I am sure a large turnout is expected? Thanks!!
The pins are gorgeous! Are they representing birthstones?
I noticed the diamond anniversary pins are a hit and that it will be a wristband release. Does anyone know what those rules are? We cannot find it on the parks merchandise pin pages. Thanks!
