Last night, during a special after-hours presentation at Disneyland park, Tom Staggs, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced that the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration will begin Friday, May 22, featuring a glittering parade, street-to-sky fireworks and an all-new “World of Color.”
The iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland park and Carthay Circle Theatre in Disney California Adventure park will glisten and gleam, each with its own diamond medallion featuring the letter “D.” The entire resort will sparkle with Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration décor and festive banners in shades of Disneyland blue.
Disney California Adventure park will present a special edition of the popular “World of Color” show. In “World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney,” Mickey Mouse will take guests on a fun-filled and inspirational journey through the unparalleled imagination of Walt Disney, exploring his decades-long legacy of memorable animated moments and the dream of Disneyland park.
At Disneyland park, the new “Paint the Night” parade will bring some of the most innovative floats, vibrant costumes, dazzling special effects, unforgettable music and energetic performances ever presented at the Disneyland Resort. This new, state-of-the-art nighttime parade floods Main Street, U.S.A., with stunning color, fun surprises and more than 1.5 million brilliant LED lights.
Also at Disneyland park, the new “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular will be a sky-high celebration featuring sparkling pyrotechnics, immersive projections, and other effects that transform Disneyland park right before your eyes. “Disneyland Forever” envelops you in an enthralling, breathtaking journey like never before, leveraging the largest installation of projection mapping technology in a Disney park and surprising special effects. The new show will feature two original songs, the theme “Live the Magic” and the inspiring closing song “Kiss Goodnight,” written by Disney Legend Richard Sherman.
Guests at the special presentation last night got a sneak peek at the projections now in development for this all-new nighttime spectacular. Take a look at the video below to see what else happened!
We’ve got even more to share, including dazzling and delicious food and merchandise offerings especially for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, so keep following the Disney Parks Blog and join the conversation with the hashtag #Disneyland60.
Have the announced the end date for the Celebration????
Also looking for info on an end date for the Anniversary. Any help would be wonderful!
Are they doing anything for 1955ers, I’ve gone to the 5th to the 50th anniversary to celebrate my birthday and know many others I grew up with in California also born in 1955 who do the same thing. I’ve written about this on our 25th, 30th, 40th, 50th and now 60th birthday year. I think some type of recognition should be made to those sharing the same birthday year as Disneyland, otherwise the only other thing we have is Back to the Future, and the Enchantment under the sea dance.
So so soo excited!!! Hoping to go this year on my birthday- August 1st! Has the end date of the 60th Diamond Celebration been announced yet? I want to make sure that I’ll be going when it is still going on! 🙂
Do we know if the fireworks and parade offerings will only be on select nights? Or will they be every night?
Has an end date been announced?
OMG OMG OMG……MY 60th Birthday is May 22!!!! Guess I need to make some more reservations…….
Thank U for greeting all of us that time. UR always so kind to do that.
We had a wonderful time and are so very excited for the celebrations to begin! The finale with the immersive projection technology was amazing — the kind of magic that only Disney can create ✨
My favorite part of our events is getting to see all of you! So glad you enjoyed the evening.
Excited for the Disneyland 60 celebration to begin!
My mom and I had a great time at the event! Was so nice to meet you and we are looking forward to May 22nd!!!
Great to meet you, too!
Will there be sparkly D pins to buy?
Thank you for including my daughter and I in the spectacular announcements last night. We were honored to be apart of this! I can’t wait for all the fun to begin on May 22nd! See you there!!
Glad you could be there, Lisa!
Huge thanks to you, Erin, and the entire Disney Parks Blog team for all your hard work on last night’s celebration. It was a priceless experience for me. The preview of “Disneyland Forever” had me wide-eyed and “Live the Magic” is already stuck in my head. To echo Tom, I’m thankful to be part of Disneyland’s heritage, but I’m even more thankful to be part of Disneyland’s future!
We’re glad you enjoyed it as much as we did, Grace!
I absolutely can not wait for this Diamond Disneyland adventure. My grandparents took me for my first birthday 60 years ago and I have gone every year since and have taken my kids and have been taking my grandkids. This is going to be amazing.
Hi there. It was mentioned in the Q&A with the press that the Christmas Parade would not happen in 2015. Is this something that can be confirmed?
I am traveling in November 2015 and was hoping to see Disneyland’s Holiday offerings as I usually travel to Walt Disney World to see them.
That is the information we have at this time, yes. But keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog and we’ll let you know when these details are confirmed.
Patrick, Paint the night originated in Hong Kong DL, I assume the music will be mostly the same in which case it starts with a familiar phrase and the music includes Baroque Hoedown
So will the castle be covered while its being worked on until May? Seems like that would upset many fans there for Valentines Day as its the most popular place to take pictures for girls.
Are the parade and fireworks going to be showing during Halloween Time? My family and I will be going in the first week in October and we really want to see all the entertainment for #Disneyland60.\
Happy belated birthday!
Thanks, Kathryn! Yes, these will be offered during Halloween Time.
Will the park be open for 24 hrs May 22nd to 23rd?
Can’t wait to see the castle(s) bedecked with diamonds and jewels. I wonder if there are going to be an “winks” to the original Electrical Parade in the new one??
We will be there April 28 to May 11. Any chance any of the new Celebration happenings will be going on then??
such a tease… I can’t wait to see how the new effects look during the fireworks
This looks like a great mix of story, technology and that small amount of magic Disney always tries to strive for. Fantastic !
Thanks for including us last night. It was a great evening, and we’re looking forward to seeing ALL of Disneyland Forever and the other shows in May!
Glad you had a good time!
Hey Erin, just for clarification, are both of the new songs in Disneyland Forever written by Richard Sherman, or only the “Kiss Goodnight?” Thanks!
Good question! Sorry for the confusion – “Kiss Goodnight” is the song written by Richard Sherman. He did not write “Live the Magic.”
This sounds awesome! it starts on May 22 but no mention as to how long it will last. Is it just for summer or will it be for the rest of the year?
We don’t have an end date to share yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
