Today was an exciting day for Disney Cruise Line and runDisney! More than 700 runners completed the inaugural Castaway Cay Challenge, earning the highly prized medal for this first-ever competition.

This event was the first of its kind to be held amid the swaying palm trees and turquoise waters of a private island paradise. Disney cruisers followed a special 5K course throughout Castaway Cay, enjoying unique photo opps and friendly greetings along the way …

To be eligible for the challenge, runners had to complete any Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend race with a distance of 5K or longer this past weekend. Then they had a few days to rest up, relaxing aboard the Disney Dream, before running through paradise (literally)! The voyage also featured special activities, speakers and merchandise designed for the Castaway Cay Challenge participants.

The next Castaway Cay Challenge takes place following the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend during the four-night cruise aboard the Disney Dream departing February 23. Hope to “run” into you there!

  • Sure hope they continue this challenge series!! Everything I’ve read, so far, states nothing is in the works for future CC challenge runs after Princess wknd! Hubby and I did 2013 WDW race and cruise. Also, 2014 TOT race and cruise. So, technically, I’ve completed this twice. 😉
Sure would enjoy the “official” bling….. ** fingers crossed **

  • We are already booked for a Disney cruise 2/16 and plan on running Princess 1/2 marathon – how and when can we sign up for the challenge if they have it again with the PHM? This looks like lots of Fun!

  • Do you know if this challenge is going to continue in the future for more races? I am running the Wine and Dine half marathon in November and already have a 4 night cruise booked for the next sailing after it and would love to run this challenge.

  • Can you tell us if the rubber Castaway Cay 5k medallion that was given out in addition to the challenge medal will be handed out to 5k participants on all cruises this year or if it also is unique to the cruises which have the Castaway Cay Challenge? Hoping to earn it on my cruise in May.
