Today we’re celebrating another attraction milestone on the Disney Parks Blog. It’s Space Mountain’s 40th anniversary here at Magic Kingdom Park!
The idea for Space Mountain originated back in the 1960s when the dream of space travel became a very real reality. After a few years of planning and two years of construction, it opened in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park on January 15, 1975. The attraction debuted as a unique offering at the park, as it was the second attraction built specifically for the park in Florida (the first was Country Bear Jamboree).
Space Mountain attractions have since opened at Disneyland park in 1977, at Tokyo Disneyland in 1983, at Disneyland Paris in 1995, and at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005.
Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog today for more on this attraction milestone!

Can it really be 40 years? I remember riding for almost 40 years now, that is vintage for sure!
Happy Anniversary and thanks for those “dark rides” of suspense!
This attraction definitely holds a very special place in a lot of people’s hearts.
The Country Bears have their film. Where’s the one for Space Mountain?
🙂
Space Mountain shares its 40th anniversary year with my wedding anniversary!! My husband and I even rode Space Mountain on our honeymoon trip to the Magic Kingdom. I have a picture of us at Disney World in 1975 but I don’t think I have one of us at Space Mountain. We’re hoping to bring our whole family to the Magic Kingdom to celebrate our 40th anniversary in September.
