Thomas Smith told you earlier this morning about the upcoming 24-hour event to kick off the “Coolest Summer Ever” at Walt Disney World Resort, and I’m excited to follow up and let you know that we’re kicking off summer and launching the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration with a 24-hour event of our own, May 22-23!

The all-day/all-night celebration will begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 22 and will conclude 24 hours later at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 23. The event will include dancing and special character encounters at locations in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks, along with enchanting Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration décor throughout the resort and, of course, the shows and attractions that our guests love.

Here’s a look at what is coming when the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration begins May 22:

  • “Paint the Night” Parade – After dark, along the Disneyland park parade route, 24-hour event guests will be among the first to see the new “Paint the Night” parade, showcasing beloved Disney characters in dazzling parade scenes illuminated with more than 1.5 million individually controlled lights – the first all-LED parade in Disneyland Resort history.
  • “Disneyland Forever” Fireworks – Disneyland park itself plays a starring role in the “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular, also premiering during the 24-hour event. Breathtaking fireworks shows have long been a Disneyland Resort tradition and “Disneyland Forever” soars to new levels, immersing guests from the tips of their toes to the brilliant pyrotechnic bursts above, thanks to special effects that turn the storefronts of Main Street, U.S.A., the Matterhorn and the facade of “it’s a small world” into gigantic projection screens filled with color, characters and surprises.
  • “World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney” – Award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris and Mickey Mouse will be the hosts of the all-new “World of Color” show, premiering May 22 during the 24-hour event. “World of Color – Celebrate!” illuminates the night in a fun-filled and inspirational journey exploring Walt Disney’s decades-long legacy of memorable animated moments and his dream of Disneyland park.

We’ll be sharing more details as the 24-hour event draws closer, so keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog!

  • Does anyone have any advice on what time to get to the gate so that me and my family get into the park before it reaches capacity? I don’t want to camp out all night, but I will if I have to 🙂

  • I can go in on the 22nd but I’m blocked out on the 23rd. Will entering the parks be a problem after midnight (technically the 23rd), or will my pass work until 6 am?

    • The May 22 operating day is 6 am to 6 am May 23. The operating day on May 23 begins when the parks re-open that day. Hope that helps.

  • In previous years people were allowed to line up at midnight. From what I’ve seen those who did come early were directed to park in the Simba parking lot. My question for the 2015 Diamond Celebration 24 hour event is: will handicap parking also only be in Simba or will we be allowed to park in one of the designed lots closer to the line up area? If we have to park in Simba, will the shuttle be running at midnight? I cannot wait for this event. My first one!

    • Donna – We’ll share parking information as the event gets closer.

  • Such an awesome event, I can’t wait! But I was wondering what will be the process of entering and exiting the parks and will we be able to rre- enter the parks?

  • I’m so disappointed that costumes won’t be allowed at this event, unlike the Disney World event. As an Premier Passholder and avid amateur costumer, Halloween and special events are the highlights of my Disney visits, and I was super excited about this event until I read the comments. I would think that the Diamond celebration with its look back at the Disney canon and inspiration would be a perfect opportunity to let Disney fans’ creativity shine and continue to show how Walt’s vision that “all started with a mouse” has inspired us.

  • Hi, I have the same question that a few others have asked. If the park does reach capacity from so many people wanting to get in, will others be turned away? We will be at Disneyland during the week before and weekend of Memorial Day. I can’t wait to be a part of the 60th celebration. 🙂

  • Awe! This sounds like so much fun. Do you know what the regulars hours for May 23, 2015 will be? Sadly, we won’t be able to make it the 22nd.

  • Will you have to enter by a specific time?…we will not be arriving until about 8pm that day. Will we still be able to get in?

  • Will there be a major pin event celebrating the Diamond Anniversary? Disney World is hosting two of them this year and it would be remarkable for Disneyland not to host one on this huge anniversary. I’ve been to Enchanted Tiki Room and Sci-Fi Academy and these have been so great.

  • Hi Erin,
Does the regular premium annual passport work for the 24 hour event, or do you have to purchase a special party event ticket?
    Thank you for your time.

    • Melissa – You should check the annual passport block out dates to be sure.

  • Hi Erin, I’m sure there will be tons of people trying to make it to this event so is there a limit to how many people can go in the park? Would they turn us away if they reach their limit? Thanks!

  • We had already planned a trip with our annual passes exp. 6-2 our last day on the 22nd. (I did not know this was occurring during our trip) I have heard that in the past some guests are not able to enter. I would hate to miss a day at Disneyland. Is this a possibility?

  • Hi Erin, this will be my first year attending the 24 hour event and have been waiting for the announcement! But Im not sure how it works, will Disney California Adventure be open 6am to 6am as well or just regular hours? And if it isnt can i purchas ea park hopper and go into DCA then return back to disneyland after DCA is closed? SOrry so long thanks in advance!

    • Annette – Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure park will be open 6 am – 6 am.

  • What great event will take place on July 17 the actual 60th anniversary ?

    • Wayne – We’ll have updates to share as that date gets closer!

  • Tina, if it’s anything like the Leap Day 24-hour party, the next morning will be empty. But, that was in the middle of the week and this is a holiday weekend so I’m sure it will pick up quickly.

  • Only way my wife will let me go to this is if I win a trip. Hope theres a contest again to win a trip.

  • Do the lockers stay open for the whole 24 hours?

  • Can annual deluxe pass holder’s use it to get in?

    • Wayne – Please check the schedule of block out dates to be sure.

  • How great! I am very excited!

  • Does anyone know if California Adventures is expected to be any less crowded?

  • I just hope crowds wont be too bad

  • Can’t wait. It was such an amazing experience last year, and I survived the entire 24 hours.

Let’s see if I can do it again! 😀

    • Good luck!

  • My boyfriend and I have the California select annual pass (cheapest one) and both the 22nd and 23rd are blocked out for us. Will Disneyland be changing the blockout dates so that those with the cheaper passes can attend?

We were able to make it last year and we had the regular California pass (second cheapest) but it seems as if these dates are blocked for that pass as well.

  • Erin, do visitors have to purchase a special ticket for this event? Say if i already have plans to visit Disneyland resort May 22nd & May 23rd and I purchase a Two Day One-Park-Per day ticket, can I use that to enter the parks?

    • Autumn – All you need to enter is regular park admission; no special ticket is required.

  • I am so unbelievably excited for this! Our family will be there celebrating for our sons 3rd birthday and we get to enjoy all of this for our stay! We cant wait!

  • I know I’m the third person to ask, but will Disneyland allow people to dress up “and show their Disney Side” like WDW is allowing people to do? It was awesome to see all of the elaborate costumes on adults last year (and it was awesome to dress up myself).

For those of you with ticket questions, such as Jennifer, if it is anything like the past 24-hour events, all you need is a regular ticket for the 22nd, and that will last for the full 24 hours into the morning of the 23rd.

    • Kristen – Our focus will be the launch of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Just make sure you’re following the guidelines listed here.

  • I have the reverse question as Ashley- I’m open on the 22nd and blacked out on the 23rd.

    • The regular operating day will run 6 am 5/22 to 6 am 5/23, so 5/22 admission will apply to the entire 24 hours.

  • I won’t be able to make it. Do you know if there will be a live stream set up to see what’s going on in the parks, Erin?

    • We’ll have details to share soon, Bob.

  • if we’re blacked out on March 22nd and not the 23rd, could we enter the park at midnight on the 23rd?

    • Sorry, no – The regular operating day will run 6 am 5/22 to 6 am 5/23.

  • Our high school choir will be performing on May 22nd at Disneyland! So excited to be part of this special day. Does anyone know if a special pass will be needed to attend the 24 hour celebration? The students will have park-hopper passes.

    • How exciting! No special ticket purchase is required – you can participate with regular park admission.

  • I’m assuming since on the block out calendar for the Southern California Annual passholders May 22 and 23 are blocked that we are excluded from participating? I sure hope not. 🙁 *crossing fingers*

  • Will guests be allowed to dress up at Disneyland for the celebration? WDW has already confirmed through their website guests will be allowed to be in costume for the event.

    • Christopher – The focus here will be on the launch of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Just make sure you’re following the guidelines listed here.

  • We fly back to from Florida to the UK on the 19th, so sad I will have just missed it for another year!

  • This the 60th Anniversary of the Disneyland Resort. I would be a little surprised if other resorts joined in the 24 hour celebration.

  • Good morning Erin- Will there be a 24 hour event on the actual anniversary in July?

    • Susan – There are no plans for another 24-hour event at this time.

  • We had already planned a trip since this coincides with my kids’ last day of school and we are arriving May 23. I am terrified of what the crowds will be like May 23-28 🙁

  • In my life time I have seen Some big anniversaries. Glad to be part of this

  • Will there be a contest, like last year, to try and win a trip during the 24 hr event?

  • When will the entertainment schedule be announced?

    • Justin – Yes, we’ll be sharing details on the special entertainment planned for the event as the date gets closer.

  • This is so exciting, Erin do you know if there will be multiple showings of World of Color- Celebrate on may 22-23? would love to see all the NEW Entertainment offerings in one night! Thanks and look forward to a special event from DPB hopefully 😉

    • Steven – As soon as the entertainment schedule is available, we will let you know.

  • I’m definitely going to be in attendance. I cant wait!!!

  • I called DLR to ask about this just minutes before the news went live! Haha! So excited about the Diamond Celebration!

  • I’m so excited for this!
The Southern California Pass will still get us in right?

    • Stephanie – Please check the block-out dates listed for your pass just to be sure.

  • I noticed there’s a mention of “Dressing Up” at Magic Kingdom, but non for Disneyland 🙁

  • Yes! I’m so excited to watch all the new shows and more importantly, celebrate everything about my favorite park in the world. Will we be allowed to dress up again this year, and if so, any hints as to the theme? I must prepare…now! 🙂

    • Grace – We’re really excited to focus on the launch of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Just make sure you’re following the guidelines listed here.

  • Yes! So excited for this. This will be my third 24-hour event, but combining it with the 60th celebrations will make it an even better party. Thank you, Disneyland!

  • oops, this is Disneyland – should have read the title bar. Hoping they do the same at the Magic Kingdom

  • Sounds like fun

  • Do you know if there is special admission pass? or if I am an Annual Passholder at WDW, is that all I need? I’m going to give it a whirl this year

  • Are there details of the duration of the 60th anniversary celebrations? e.g. will the “Paint by Night” parade still be running for Halloween time this year? Christmas?

Or, will these special events only be available during the peak summer season?
