Take a journey back in time to the years 1955–1964. The opening of Disneyland is underway, new never-before-seen attractions have come to life for all to enjoy, magnificent mountains magically appear, a skyway leads to journeys in Tomorrowland, mermaids and sea-serpents grace the seas amidst submarines and monorails take flight high above the world below.

Beginning this May, and over the course of the entire Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, we will take a look back at milestones like these during each of the last six decades that have made the Disneyland Resort what it is today, with this special ‘Decades’ collection. Designed by artist Jeff Granito, the first piece of art in the series will debut in May. I wanted to find out more about what inspired Jeff to create this very special collection, and here’s what he had to share.

“What made this collection so special for me was the opportunity to create specific pieces of art that represented key moments over the past sixty years in Disneyland Resort history,” said Jeff, “especially from a stylistic approach. In the initial piece, I wanted to capture the excitement and optimism of Disneyland during its first ten years. For many, it’s the first moment of discovery into new worlds and magical lands; where else can you have the atomic age of Tomorrowland, meet the whimsical touches of Fantasyland. For me, it was a dream come true.”

Here’s how it works! New art themed to each decade will debut almost every 60 days on items including apparel, home décor, pins and more. There might even be a few surprises in store. What, you ask? I guess you’ll have to keep watching the Disney Parks Blog to find out more.

Tip: Keep in mind with each release that purchasing limits will apply and merchandise is available while supplies last.

Here’s one final fun fact! There is a diamond-shaped icon in each piece. Can you find this one?

  • I was there on May 31 and was able to grab one of the decade mugs at the main Disney Store in Downtown Disney. I had to dig in the bottom shelf because the top three which carried the mugs were wiped clean! Hopefully you’ll get a chance to get one. Looking forward the next decade mugs. Happy hunting!

  • Kacie, I was there on Wed the 27th doing the EXACT same thing – picture of the bug in hand – no one had seen it. I think they were released yesterday, doesn’t it figure?

Anyone have an update on these items?

  • Mary, probably $14.95 that’s what most of the mugs in DL cost

  • So disappointed, was at DL this past weekend to celebrate the 60th and no decade merch was available. Furthermore, when asking store employees about when it would come out, EVERY single one (and I literally asked at every store in DL and CA LAND because I really wanted this mug and do not know when I will be able to afford another trip,) had no idea what I was talking about. One lady even politely told me that I must be mistaken, she had never heard of the decade merch and I was probably mistaken about something I saw at a Disney store, elsewhere. I didn’t even know those stores still existed.. Really bummed. Hopefully will be able to purchase online.

  • This would be such a great gift for our HS art teacher! I hope it’s not too much $$, can you tell me the price? Thank you!

  • Are thee going to be any cookie jars in the collection. I had one from years ago. It was a set of 3 and when put together formed a disney scene with Mickey and Minny and other characters. In a move it was broken and it would be great to get a new one.

  • Michelle I have a question. Is this art available on line?

  • Found it! Boom! I am sooooo excited. SAD, SAD, SAD to be in Vegas over the 24 hour party but can’t wait to join the fun the minute I return!

  • Hi Michelle!
What’s the latest news about Diamond Celebration pressed pennies? I remember the 50th had a fantastic set.

    • Robert, I can’t tell you to much right now, but I can tell you, you will not be disappointed.

  • Found it…. definitely NOT in the Skyway.

  • Will these be available as prints or just on assorted merch? I’m hoping to get a collection of all 6 prints! This one looks fantastic!

    • Hi Reed! You can expect to find each image available as a print, as well as on assorted merchandise.

  • Based on the image posted, the decades will be 1955-1964, 1965-1974, 1975-1984, 1985-1994, 1995-2004, 2005-2014 (2015? 2015 and beyond?). There will not be a 1980-1989 or 1990-1999.

    • You’re right on the mark Ryan! I think you’ll like what’s coming.

  • I am also anxious to know: will these will be available online. Are there deluxe prints of the art?

Also, just to clarify, did Jeff Granito design all of the art for the series or just this first piece??

    • Hey Jonathan! We are still determining what the online piece will look like, but I’ll keep you posted. The images will be available as deluxe prints, as of right now.

The artist for the entire collection was Jeff Granito. I’ve seen the other images and you are going to love them.

  • Will the merchandise be available online as well? Specifically the prints above?

    • Hi Holly! We’re still determining what items, if any will be available online. So I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated in my posts.

  • I agree with brett, I also hope there’s a 1980-1990 & 1990-2000 decade merchandise

    • Hey Gunnar! You’ll have to wait and see, but I think you’re going to be pretty happy.

  • I found what clearly looks like the diamond to me. Of course, I’m not going to point out its location or color because I think the fun is in finding it – but I’m sure someone else will reveal where it is. 🙂

  • I’m a huge fan of the original ride poster series, and I’m excited for this one, too! I won’t be in the parks until September, so I’m hoping some of the merchandise will be available online as well?

  • I found the diamond shaped icon they are in the skyway

  • Oh my God I love it I can’t wait for more. I am so ready to buy every single merchandise Will it have 1980 and 1990 i’m getting excited! Now that I am done with my show at my college now I’m ready for to celebrate Disneyland 60th anniversary

  • im all about this! so rad

  • Found the diamond! (I won’t post where it is so others can be unspoiled, but I will say it’s not purple…)

    • Good eye Robyn!
