Opening May 22 as part of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, the spectacular new “Paint the Night” parade will feature some of the most innovative floats, vibrant costumes, dazzling special effects, unforgettable music and energetic performances ever presented at Disneyland Resort.

The Entertainment team has been working around the clock to get the “Paint the Night” parade ready for its big debut. Today, we’re pleased to offer you a glimpse at one of our performer rehearsals with the Fiber Fairies from the opening unit and the Cars Crew, who join Mack Truck and Lightning McQueen. Once everything comes together, these talented performers will become an integral part of the show.

The music for the “Paint the Night” parade, a bit of which can be heard in the video, features the wonderful tune, “When Will I See You Again,” by the band Owl City. The song gives a great, contemporary sound to this new, state-of-the-art nighttime parade. And when you see “Paint the Night” in person, be sure to listen closely. You may just hear some musical surprises woven into the soundtrack!

  • Why is the anaheim Paint the Night Parade different than the Hong Kong one? Ours does not do the parade stops like in Hong Kong where the interactive merchandise works…and ours does not have the male counterparts the “be our guest” candle dress ladies. Why don’t we have those?

  • Looking forward to this new parade! It looks like it is going to be Awesome Sauce!

  • Thanks for sharing the sneak peak. Looks like fun. Owl City is a not a band but a project of Adam Young. The post above states “When Will I See you Again”(by Three Degrees) as opposed to the Owl City song title of “When CAN I See you again.

  • Hi Shawn.
I will be visiting in November/December coming over from Australia especially for the 60th anniversary. One of the things I cannot wait to see is the Paint the Night parade. As it will be the Christmas period, will the Christmas parade be running during the day, and the Paint the Night be running in the evening? I am really hoping this will be the case as I just don’t want to miss the new parade.

  • Hi Shawn, I’m excited with the new parade, I’ve seen the one from Hongkong and is impressive. Also is great it will feature new theme floats, like the original drum and Frozen. Are there any chance we get to see a Tangled themed float? (If not from the get go, perhaps later in the year). I think this float will be perfect in this parade with a scene of the floating lights going up and down. Keep up the good work and thanks for the info in this blog.

  • Really need to get this in Disney World too. Can’t wait to see MSELP go, I miss Spectromagic so much.

  • Will Made with Magic be part of the parade?

    • Brandon – Yes! Made with Magic items will interact with “Paint the Night” in some surprising ways.

  • I can’t wait. Will the song be available on a CD or download anytime soon?

    • Chris – I’ll have to check with my friends at Disney Merchandise on that. I haven’t heard.

  • Will Paint the Night be replacing Soundsational, or will it be a welcome addition and have two parades like the Magic Kingdom does? I was just there in December, and while the Christmas parade was pretty, I was bummed that I did not get to see Soundsational.

    • Jen – “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” will continue to be presented during the day, with “Paint the Night” running after dark.

  • Jaclyn– Paint the Night will be a new parade. However, it was previously mentioned that it will have a float similar to the opening “drum” float from the Electrical Parade.

  • I thought I had read that the Electrical Parade was going to be at Disneyland this year. Is it part of the Paint the Night or is the original parade and floats not going to be in it?

    • Jaclyn – “Paint the Night” will have a couple subtle nods to the past for those who have fond memories of the original Main Street Electrical Parade, but it will be an entirely new show with all new floats.

  • Oh My God I love <3 that song "When Can I See You Again" from Wreck it Ralph! It's such a fun song to party too. I enjoy listening too it.

They play it at the Sail Away Party's onboard Disney Cruise Line.

I even know the dance routine too go with it. I may even dance on the side during the parade as well! 😀

  • Thanks for the video! It’s cool that Owl City recorded a new version of the song. I’m really looking forward to this parade.

  • I have a question. Does Disney plan on keeping Paint the Night even after the diamond celebration ends?

    • Zach – Specific plans have not yet been made, but it’s probably a safe bet. 😉

  • Whoa, they changed the lyrics for the parade from the version that’s in Wreck-It Ralph! That’s cool! Is that what is meant by “musical surprises”?

    • Allison – You’re right! Owl City recorded a custom version of the song for “Paint the Night,” but there are more surprises to come. You’ll just have to wait and listen… 😉

  • Ive been waiting for a new Electrical Parade since I was 5 when the original left Disneyland! Of all the 60th anniversary additions this is by far the one that EVERYONE is waiting for. Just wondering is there any chance special previews will be hosted before their premier for Annual Placeholders like there was for the Hong Kong premier? Or do I just have to be patient for the premier???!

    • Oliver – Plans are always subject to change, but as of right now the first public performance of “Paint the Night” will be on May 22.

  • I’m in pain from the excitement of Hattie, Paint the night, Harold, Pan’s Flight….I can’t take it. I just danced around the house! You’re genius’ there! This parade is killing me , Im so very excited! Owl city and maybe Baroque Hoedown?!! I love you!

    • 🙂

  • Having seen Paint the Night parade at HKDL I am happy that the Entertaiment team at DL has decided to use “When Will I See You Again” as the main soundtrack. It really does a great job setting the mood and atmosphere for the parade.

I will not spoil it for the readers here but can confirm the musical surprises in the parade soundtrack. I will confidently predict that the DL version will be in English and not Chinese like at HKDL! 😉

  • Will the Disneyland version of Paint of the Night include the show stop like the Hong Kong Disneyland version does?

    • Kyle – No. “Paint the Night” parade will continue non-stop along the parade route at Disneyland Park.
