On Saturday, May 2 runDisney will host its final Expedition Everest Challenge. This exciting nighttime 5K through Disney’s Animal Kingdom includes obstacles throughout the course and is followed by a scavenger hunt making it the ultimate adventure.
Get prepared for this final run on the wild side by showing your best Everest #DisneySide. Check out this gallery of some of my favorite outfits spotted during previous races.
To get you ready for the journey, Leslie Kay of DisneyBound put together this male look with pieces from Champion and New Balance.
Yeti or not, I can’t wait to see your wild outfit choices and share with you highlights from this year’s race in my next post. Good luck to all participants!

Will the New Balance shoes be available at EEC this year?
Yes, we will only have the 990 and 860 Retro Mickey and Minnie footwear.
This will be the first runDisney race for my 14yr old son & me!! We’re so excited to work as a team finish. Our costumes are almost done and we only have 6 more ‘sleeps’ until we leave!!! Team Jolly Holiday is ready to take on the challenge!!
I hope you guys have an amazing team experience! Can’t wait to see your costumes!
It would be really neat to do a long 6-12hrs adventure race using all the parks & property…:)
We are constantly evaluating our race event portfolio and may have something to share soon regarding future runDisney race events! To get the latest runDisney information and event registration updates sign up to receive runDisney emails at runDisney.com.
awe, this makes me sad. My fiance and I have been talking about doing this on for while, but haven’t been able to make it down there for it yet. We were planning to do it in the next few years, but I guess not! Loved how this one was more than just a run. The scavenger hunt aspect was really appealing! Why are they discontinuing this one?
We did this in 2010 and had a GREAT time! I’m curious as to why they would discontinue this race? Is it because the park is going to be open later this time next year? Or are they modifying the race to have an Avatar theme because of the newer attractions?
I’m sad to hear this will be the last Expedition Everest Challenge! I have some friends that completed this race in 2011 and I was hoping to one day possibly compete in the race as well.
Just wondering when the medals will be revealed, as this event is the weekend after this one.
So sorry to hear that this will be the last Expedition Everest Challenge! My husband and I did the race together a few years ago and had a fantastic time, and were hoping to do it again someday. The team aspect and the extra challenges of the obstacles and the clever clues for the scavenger hunt made this a very unique and entertaining race, while the shorter distance made it accessible for more folks, including all the cute parent-child racing teams we saw. And the chance to ride Expedition Everest, our favorite ride, by moonlight in the wee hours of the night at the after party was an awesome bonus. 🙂 We will treasure our compass finisher’s medals and fond memories of the race even more than we already do, knowing this is the last one. Looking forward to seeing what other exciting events runDisney has in store for us for the future!
Hi, Julie! Thanks for sharing your favorite Expedition Everest Memories! Have you looked into other 5K options? Pretty much all of our races weekends now include a Family 5K and I LOVE seeing the creativity put into some of the family outfits! Hopefully we will see you guys at another event soon!
Although the Yeti has been working a quite some time!
