Disney Days of Past: Celebrating DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

This week in 2000 the film “Dinosaur” was released. “Dinosaur” stars an iguanodon, Aladar, who should be familiar to fans of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the attraction DINOSAUR in DinoLand, U.S.A.

When Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, this attraction went by the name Countdown to Extinction. In fact, on the Time Rovers you can still see CTX written on the vehicles.

Another attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened before the movie debuted. Know what attraction I’m referring to? Share your expertise knowledge in the comments section below!

How well do you know DINOSAUR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Take our quiz now!

  • It’s Tough to Be a Bug!

    • 🙂

  • “It’s Tough to be a Bug” themed to the Disney*Pixar film A Bug’s Life opened with the park on Earth Day of 1998, prior to the film’s release.

  • Just FYI: Dinosaur was released on May 19, 2000. Tarzan was the summer 1999 release, which also used to be a show at DAK.

    • You’re right. That’s a typo on my behalf. Thanks!

  • It’s Tough to be a Bug opened before A Bug’s Life.

  • James’ wife here – Anyway you want to name it Countdown to Extinction or DINOSAUR – we LOVE that ride! One of the best rides in WDW! We just returned from our stay and we kept hopping on that ride as soon as we got off! LOL

  • I remember it when it was Countdown to Extinction. I also remember seeing “Dinosaur” in the theaters. It may just be the least memorable film ever put together by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

  • I didn’t know it was a ride before the movie!
