The Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration kicks off this week with a 24-hour event on May 22-23 at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks! Some of you may be planning to arrive early in the hopes of being among the first to celebrate with us. If so, I’ve got some important information to share with you.

  • Pumbaa lot will open for early arrivals at 10 p.m. the evening of May 21.
  • Mickey & Friends Parking Structure will open at 4 a.m. and Toy Story Lot will open at 5 a.m. on May 22.

Pre-Opening Queue

  • Guests may bring games, blankets, chairs, tents and sleeping bags, but guests must return these items to their cars or hotel rooms and return to the line by 2 a.m.
  • At 2 a.m., all guests in line will be moved through Security checkpoints to the Disneyland Resort Esplanade, where they will receive a commemorative keepsake while supplies last.
  • No smoking, fighting or loud music will be allowed in line.
  • All guests in line will be able to temporarily leave the line to use the restroom, purchase food or beverages, and return or retrieve items from their vehicles/hotel rooms.

Opening Celebration

  • At 4 a.m., guests who choose to begin their day at Disneyland park will be escorted onto Main Street, U.S.A., to prepare for the opening celebration moment, which will take place at approximately 6 a.m. inside Disneyland park.
  • Guests who choose to begin their day at Disney California Adventure park will be escorted onto Buena Vista Street at 5:30 a.m.

Costumes and Prohibited Items

  • Costumes for adults are not allowed for this event. Please refer to the guidelines listed here.
  • Be sure to check the list of prohibited items here.
  • Lockers in the Disneyland Resort Esplanade and inside Disneyland park will be available at 4 a.m. Disney California Adventure park lockers will be available at 5:30 a.m.

  • Regular park admission used on May 22 is valid for the entire 24-hour period (6 a.m. on May 22 through 6 a.m. on May 23). A special ticket is not required for this event.
  • Disneyland Resort ticket booths will open at 2 a.m. on May 22.
  • SoCal and SoCal Select Annual Passports will not be valid for admission on May 22.
  • Premium, Deluxe and Premier Annual Passports will be valid for admission during the entire 24-hour period.

  • Wish the giveaway was announced sooner and/or that it wasn’t at 2am – 4 hours before opening for 24 hours. Would like to attend the entire event but more than 24 hours is really stretching things. 🙁

  • Erin – The entertainment schedule you provided *does not* show the 3:00am World of Color showing that everyone keeps talking about….It is already 5/19. When will the entertainment schedule be updated to be accurate?
And I really hope there is more than just the one 8:50pm showing of Paint the Night currently listed for this 24 hr event. It would be a shame to have to fight for a viewing spot.

    • Paul – If you click through to the calendar page for May 23, you will see the showtimes for after midnight. Those included in the 24-hour event are denoted with “(24 Hour Event).”

  • Will Disney send a Twitter message if the park reaches capacity? It would be helpful. I can’t arrive until about midnight Friday May 22.

  • So looking forward to this celebration. We booked a room at the Grand Californian, staying there 21st and 22nd. How should we plan to begin our early morning day on the 22nd? Will we receive the commemorative keepsake as well?

    • Commemorative keepsakes will be distributed beginning at 2 a.m. and continue while supplies last.

  • Several people have asked about whether or not people who exit the park will be able to get back in, and I’ve noticed a disturbing LACK of official response on this topic. I know you can’t predict the future, but is there some kind of mechanism in place to deal with this?

If I have to camp out in CA the entire day to be sure I can use my WoC dining fastpass, I guess I will, but I’d really prefer to start at DL and hop over to CA for lunch.

  • What is the maximum capacity for each park? will there be something posted online?

  • Hi Erin, does everyone need to be in line at 2am or can we take turns waiting, getting food and whatnot? Will Cast members be handing out numbers so we can go to the bathroom and such without losing our place?

    • You may leave the line to use the restroom, take things back to your car, etc., but you must be back in line by 2 a.m., when you will be escorted through Security checkpoint.

  • Great information on the line up and parking, but when is the stroller/wheelchair rental place be opening that morning?

    • Ginger – Stroller and wheelchair rental will open at 4 a.m.

  • Will there be something like this posted for the WDW 24 hour event?

  • I’m really disappointed that Disneyland seems to be getting the short end of the stick for the 24 hour day. Disney World really seem to just be getting way more special entertainment. Also the no costumes for adults is really upsetting, that was the highlight of last year for me.

  • For the 3AM showing of WOC, will the FASTPASS be available when the park opens at 6AM on 5/22? Also, will the ‘Celebrate’ showing be at the normal park times of 9PM and 10:15PM?

  • So what time are we actually allowed to wait in line? And where does the line start? There was some confusion at a previous 24 event and I got cut in front of by hundreds…hoping not to have that happen again 🙂

  • Will there be shuttle service from the Pumbaa lot to DL?

    • Tami – Shuttle service will not be offered from Pumbaa lot, but it is a short walk to the Disneyland Resort Esplanade.

  • Under Parking, it says Pumbaa lot opens at 10PM on May 21, but you said people going to the blog event on My 21 could park in the Pumbaa lot. Does that mean the Pumbaa lot is actually open before 10PM on May 21?

    • Guests for the event on Thursday evening are encouraged to park in the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure. If they choose to join the line after the event concludes, they should plan to move their cars to the Pumbaa lot after 10 pm.

  • Is arriving at 5:30am too late or is it a wiser idea to show up earlier to get through security and to wait in line?

  • Hi Erin, if we arrive around 5:00am, will we be allowed through the ticket entry and onto Main Street for the opening? Or will only those in escorted in at 4am be allowed early entry to Main Street? Do you also know when the shops will open, or when that info might be released? Thank you! We are super excited 🙂

  • I’m super excited for my second 24 hour event! I was the only one of our group who managed to last the full 27 hours (including preparty) last year! In Aubrey’s “keep cool” post she mentioned costumes, and in your post it says no costumes… I remember dressing up being encouraged last year. Is the no costumes rule specific to disney characters? I have something of an unusual fashion sense, and as such my day to day clothing and shoes can sometimes be construed as a costume!

    • Well done, Brandon! Best of luck this year. Unlike the 24-hour event at Walt Disney World, costumes are not allowed at the 24-hour event here at the Disneyland Resort. Feel free to express your Disney Side – just make sure that your outfit cannot be interpreted as being an actual Disney character.

  • will there be two lines to line up? one on the harbor side and one on the Disneyland resort side. will the line start at the harbor gate for the earlier birds?

    • There is one line, and guests will be directed toward the line from either side of the Esplanade.

  • Hello. I wanted to know where is the best spot to watch Disneyland Forever fireworks? I want to watch all the animation projections, so would it be best in front of the castle? By the Partners statue? Or on Main Street?

    • The great thing about “Disneyland Forever” fireworks is that you can view them from many locations throughout Disneyland park and get a different experience each time. Your experience on Main Street, U.S.A., will be different from your experience near the Matterhorn, for example. Viewing is also available near “it’s a small world,” which will have its own unique projections.

  • I have two questions.
The buses from Pumbaa do they drop you to Harbor Blvd or Downtown Disney side?
As for sleeping bags, can I bring them through the security check at 2am or do I have to bring them to the car? I wanted to bring them in and put them in a locker. Thanks

    • Lockers won’t be available until 4 a.m., so plan to take your sleeping bag back to your car and return to the line by 2 a.m.

  • Hi Erin!

I am so excited for the Diamond Celebration! I just wanted to know what kind of “commemorative keepsake” is being given out at 2 AM.

    Thank you!

    • It’s a surprise 🙂

  • What time will the lockers be available that are on the outside of Disneyland to the left of the entrance? Will they be available once we get through security at 2:00am?

    • Lockers in the Disneyland Resort Esplanade will be available beginning at 4 a.m.

  • so I am wondering if there’s a limit capacity because I will be arriving there later afternoon?

  • Do you know if the lockers will be available for the full 24 hours of the party, or will they release at midnight on the first day (as is claimed when you reserve one)?

    • Locker rental will be valid for the entire 24-hour event.

  • Will there be a different Fast Pass line for the 3am WOC show? Or will it be given out when the two previous shows are out?

    • Kyle – Look for the dedicated distribution for the 3 am show alongside regular distribution for the other shows.

  • If I renew my SoCal annual pass on the 24 hour day can I still enter?

    • SoCal and SoCal Select Annual Passports will not be valid for admission on May 22.

  • So for those who are willing to sacrifice the opening ceremony is there a chance for someone to get into either park if they arrive at 9:00 am or 10:00am? Considering how humanity’s been and all with any past holidays to count and anything 60th anniversary related.

  • After reading, sounds like we don’t sleep in the parking lot do we? where can I get information on what times are the shows such as world of color, the parades, etc. This is crazy but fun to do!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi Erin! I’ve read that the Harbor drop-off is going to be closed on the 22nd/23rd. Is there going to be a drop-off area? I’m planning on having hubby drop me off rather than driving myself so I don’t have to deal with parking 🙂 Thank you!

    • Good news – I was able to confirm that the Harbor drop-off lot will not be closed. 🙂

  • Good luck to all involved. I don’t have the stamina for this marathon, but will hope to join in when the live shows start mid morning. Fingers crossed!

  • Will there be re-entry lines? If one is in Disneyland and the park is at capacity, then one exits to Downtown Disney (or maybe to one’s hotel for a quick power nap), will one be able to come back through a re-entry line or will one be stuck with people who have not yet gotten into the park? I was thinking of being there at 6am, exiting around noon for a bit, then going back well before the parade. But if there’s a chance I won’t be able to come back in, it sounds like the nap is out of the question. (The nap is for a toddler, by the way – not me! 😉 )

  • Is there handicap parking at Pumba? How far of a walk is it from Pumba to the park? I typically park at the structure because of my disability but I want to be there early and the structure doen’t open until 4 am. That means I will miss out on the specail handout being given to those there at 2 am.

  • Hi Where can I find the schedule for the shows for this event? Thanks!

  • I would like to know how you can call this a 24 hour event from 6am to 6am, when you’re starting activities at 2am?! Some of us are flying a long way to come to this celebration, and now you’re saying we have to be there at 2am if we want to even try to get a special keepsake??? Not right.

    • To clarify, Amy – the parks do not open at 2 a.m.; they will open at 6 a.m. The 2 a.m. time is just when the line will move from outside the Disneyland Resort Esplanade through Security checkpoint.

  • I was hoping for some clarification, its stated that “SoCal and SoCal Select Annual Passports will not be valid for admission on May 22.” Does this mean that if I were to come with a SoCal annual pass between the hours of 12am-6am on May 23 I would be allowed entry? Or are we still excluded because May 23 is also a blockout date?

    • May 22 admission applies to the entire 24 hour period. May 23 admission begins with the start of the new operating day, later that morning.

  • “SoCal and SoCal Select Annual Passports will not be valid for admission on May 22.”

Isnt’ also true that those with such APs would not be able either park from midnight to 6 AM on May 23?

    • That is correct – May 22 admission applies to the entire 24 hour period. May 23 admission begins with the start of the new operating day, later that morning.

  • Will guests be able to enter the Esplanade from both sides at 2:00 am (e.g., the Habor Blvd side and the DTD side)?

    • Yes, guests will be able to enter from both sides.

  • I’m hoping there’s some information about entry during times when the park is at capacity. Will there be any place online to check for park capacity (even a binary open/closed) status?

  • Will Pumba Parking at 10pm have trams that run to the front area all night?

    • Sorry Trina – There is no transportation from the Pumbaa lot, but it is just a short walk to the Esplanade.

  • Last year, guests received a commemorative lanyard for arriving early. Will this year’s “keepsake” be similar in regards to the number available? Also, in previous years, an incentive was given to those who carpooled to the event. Will there be anything similar?

    • There are no carpool incentives this year, Christopher.

  • I have a reservation at the Disneyland hotel for Friday and will be attending the 24 hour event. Will hotel parking be open early, or should I plan on parking in one of the other lots and moving my car to the hotel later?

  • Do only the people that are in line prior to 2:00am get to move through security? Question is, if you do not get there until 3:00am will you still be able to go through security and get inline at the gates?

    • If you arrive at 3 am, you may proceed directly through Security checkpoint.

  • If my family is waiting from 2am but I can’t get there until around 4, will I be able to enter and catch up to where they are in Main Street?

  • I had a question about the 3am World of Color show; will there be fast passes for that showing?

    • Hi Diego – Yes, Disney FASTPASS will be available for the 3 a.m. “World of Color – Celebrate!” It’s best to go ahead and get your Disney FASTPASS early, if possible.

  • Will guests be turned away if the park reaches capacity? We were planning at arriving at 6am but if people are lining up at 2am I’m afraid of not being able to enter the parks.

  • Thank you for the information! Looking forward a to wacky and wonderful event!!

  • What time will guests be allowed to begin lining up? Also where will the line form?

  • Hi Erin. I will be a blog guest to join you for the preview shows in Disneyland on Thursday, May 21. Immediately upon exiting the park from this event, I was planning on lining up for the 24 hours event. Which parking would be best for both events? Will the Pumba parking be open for the Thursday, May 21 and leave my vehicle there for the 24 hours event? Any suggestions. As an AP holder my parking is covered.(if that matters) Thank you in advance for your assistance!

    • Pumbaa opens earliest and yes, you can park there for the entire event.

  • Thank you for the information, I’m getting so excited for the party! Will another post be made about special merchandise that will be available that day only and where it will be?

  • Will the shops and dining locations be on Main Street starting at 4:00 am?

    • Hi Stacy – Select locations on Main Street, U.S.A., will open early. I don’t have an exact time, though.
